Oh, What Fun
As I continue my journey along the Lewis and Clark trail, I made my way into Sioux City, IA to the interpretive center. Although the section that I went through regarding the expedition is setup for children and teens, I took advantage of it anyway. The interpretive center offers a visitors’ guidebook as well as a 70-page booklet titled, Lewis & Clark in Iowa. Both are free. The Official Visitors ’Journal, a stamping booklet, was used through the interactive, animated stations that offered information regarding the expedition specifically in this area and of the death and burial of Sergeant Charles Floyd. At each station the characters, Thomas Jefferson, Sergeant C. Floyd, the Corps of Discovery soldiers and York, the only slave in the group owned by William Clark. With the press of a button, these characters come to life to share their stories. This wonderful exhibit is a great learning tool for everyone interested in the journey of The Corp of Discovery. This building is part of another, The Betty Strong Encounter Center. Overall: Take a moment to enjoy and explore at this wonderful and free...
Read moreOh man, was this an awesome surprise! If you are travelling through the area and you have at least 30 mins to spare, don't pass this up.
The natural surroundings are really pretty. It is located in a perfect spot that is close to the river, bke trail, Hilton Garden Inn, and the exit from the Hwy. Take some time to walk around and admire the bronze statues and beautiful oak trees.
Once inside, be sure to check out both wings of the center. The east wing seems to have more temporary exhibits, but the North/West wing has all of the permanent exhibits. Be sure to have your kids check out the animitronic exhibits, they were actually quite cool.
We stopped here to kill some time but ended up staying for 45 minutes and really enjoyed our whole experience. It is well suited to kids and adults, and the staff couldn't...
Read moreTerrific presentation of Lewis and Clark journey housed in a great facility!
The story is told in a manner that kept the kids involved. There are animatronic characters such as Thomas Jefferson and Seaman, the Newfoundland who accompanied Lewis and Clark, who help tell the story. The kids can sign up to be participants on the journey such as hunter, interpretor, private, or sergeant. They learn what each person did during the journey as well as hardships they faced.
