Main and Abbey has been one of our favorite restaurants and we are 3-5 times per month costumers on average. We were there last Monday and sat at the bar which is the norm for us. The bartender could barely give us the time of day, never introduced herself and was not friendly at all. She was definitely chatting it up with other customers, which is fine, all we ask is to be waited in with a bit of timeliness and maybe a bit of a smile. We ordered drinks after waiting several minutes, and ordered an appetizer, then later ordered salads and an entree. After at least 30 minutes (and it was not overly busy) someone tried to bring us one salad, I said, “we each had one but we would like our appetizer first” at that point the bartender stopped the food delivery and said we needed our appetizer first, about 30-40 minutes later out came our burnt onion rings, she dropped them off without a word, no “I’m sorry these took so long,” no checking back to see how they were. The rest of our food was ok, but the service really put a damper on the whole evening. At no time did anyone ask us how our meal was and we basically were at the mercy of this woman who clearly had an issue with us, so much so that when we were clearly watching a fight on the tv she changed it to a different channel. The check said her name was Chelsea so I’m guessing that was her. We will come back to Main and Abbey but if this person is working we will not be staying to be treated that was again. We are generous with tipping, but she got less than 10% from us, which may have...
Read moreThis was our second visit. I want so badly to like this place but both times it has fallen short. The environment and service are excellent, however the food is where it lacks.
We ordered the Pepper Jack Chicken Egg Rolls as an appetizer and those were delicious. I ordered the 18 oz Ribeye and baked potato, my husband had the Juicy Lucy burger with garlic parmesan fries.
Husband loved the fries and thought burger was just ok. The main problem was with my steak and potato. Potato was completely undercooked but that was all I could stand to eat if that gives you an idea of how much I liked the steak. I have a difficult time describing the steak other than the taste was bad enough I questioned whether it was even beef. I get ribeye at almost every restaurant I go to and have never tasted one like this. I thought it was possibly the seasoning but it was most definitely the flavor of the meat. It had almost a "gamey" flavor. It was cooked to perfection but unfortunately I couldn't eat more than a few bites. I'm not one to send food back unless its prepared poorly so my husband ate it to avoid wasting $41. He agreed the taste made it very difficult to eat.
We didn't care for our food the first time around and were very disappointed the second time around. Unfortunately this visit will probably be...
Read moreI brought my husband to Sioux City to the hard Rock casino as a thank you and a Valentine's Day date.
When I was looking at the website I noticed that they had a gastro pub restaurant and they were offering a Valentine's Day menu which had New York strip steak on it, which is my husband's favorite. The restaurant is called Main and Abbey.
We arrived for our reservation that was for 8:00 p.m. at 7:50 and we were seated immediately. It was brought to our attention by our waitress that our table had not been cleaned. So she immediately went and grabbed a rag and a dry rag and came back and cleaned our table off for us.
Are waitresses name was Cali C. We ordered the New York strip steak medium well with Parmesan, garlic fries and a side of their Brussels sprouts. The steak came out cooked to perfection. It was very juicy. Very tender. Not a lot of fat. The french fries were perfectly seasoned with a garlic and the parmesan and the Brussels sprouts had the perfect amount of walnuts and pomegranate drizzle on them and they were perfectly crispy.
Cali C. Our waitress was very bubbly, helpful, personable, attentive and just overall a...
