The Smyrna Opera House — Attraction in Smyrna

My husband and I attended a concert here last night with a Van Morrison cover band. The band was great and the venue was very nice.

What was awful, though, was the fellow who got up on stage during intermission to make various announcements. He called up to the stage one of the staff members who was retiring and handed him a roll of toilet paper for some reason? So that was bizarre. But during his speech about the retiree he made a “joke” about ICE coming to deport him. Apropos of literally nothing.

Then he called up an older woman to the stage because it was her birthday and made a joke about wanting to see her in her high school cheerleading costume. So we got “jokes” about human rights abuses and sexism, all in one night? I don’t know if he was drunk or what but it was disgusting and unacceptable.

The Smyrna Opera House is very clean, chairs are comfy, and those I've met there are friendly and have a beautiful heart. Thank you to all of the volunteers who take time away from your own family to assist with the FREE Family Movie Nights there, and who donate snacks & drinks and provide a welcoming environment for those who appreciate family togetherness. My fiance and I took all three of our kids to watch the movie "Elf" (We've seen it before, but Will Ferrell is hilarious!) on the big screen at The Smyrna Opera House for free last week. It's really nice that there are people who care enough and believe in getting plenty of family time, to volunteer their time and/or property to help bring more of that to our community. We took our family to what we thought would be a fun day out. Unfortunately, we left well before intermission. There is no stadium seating. The stage was out of view for almost 3/4 of the place. The sound was not equal, and you could not hear. In order to go to the restroom you had to walk in front of the entire performance, embarrassing to say the least. My children went into the aisle to try and see, but the view was still obstructed. Unfortunately, I would not recommend mainly because of the venue.
