This is a good area to walk, for individuals and for families. Below are facts I have discovered about this place. Among them one can see the rationale for a high (but imperfect) score. Disclosure: I am local to the place but use it as an area to augment an entomological hobby.
There are restrooms and trash recepticles that are maintained. Parking is available just 15 feet from the trail.
The flora is a combination of high-desert, dry stuff, flowers, and marine plants. There is a sort of pond there. It's fine.
Creatures of interest observed along the path include: a. Dragonflies and damselflies b. Garter snakes, particularly in the mid-summer. c. Interesting insects if sought carefully include, praying mantis and velvet ants. Beware the sting of the velvet ant which is among the most painful of wasp stings on Earth.
Bike riders share this path with walkers and so, beware. I have seen several electrical motorbikes on this trail recently.
There is trash along the trail. Not a lot, but some.
Occasionally, I have found people sleeping outside the restroom.
The path leads essentially to the Lake. It...
Read moreA beautiful trail to go on a morning run or an evening walk. Evenings are better as you can watch the sunset and it’s glorious, as you can see from the pictures. I went there late March and the trail barely had any snow. It’s a flat trail and people typically bring their family and their canine friends. Because of the nature of the trail, you don’t need any special shoes. It does get chilly near the lake because of the wind, so do carry multiple layers. Getting to the trail is pretty straightforward. Google directly takes you to the parking spot, and the trail to the lake is around a mile from there. If you want to take a break from skiing / snowboarding or want to relax at the end of the day, one of the things to...
Read moreWe stayed right next to Rabe Meadows/Lam Watah Historic Trail at the Lakeside Inn and Casino. It was wonderful to walk the paved wandering trail through the meadow and pine trees to the beach. The small lake above the meadow was frozen but the creek still flowed freely. Even though it was February there was a nice variety of wild birds and duck, and we spotted a hawk, and could hear an owl hooting. There were a number of locals hiking and walking their dogs enjoying the beautiful and peaceful scenery. There are nice views of the snow capped mountains along the trail. It you own dogs this is a must do.
Highly recommend visiting and hiking here when visiting...
