The newly remodeled Burch Creek Mercantile is now Gandy Dancer Mercantile.
They just opened and I got to meet the new owners and get to know the place.
UPDATE: they open only Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays I believe. The menu changed and I can't find it. So I never go. I just can't remember to go when they're open, it's such limited hours now.
They still have ice cream and the soda fountain. Other than ice cream, I'm not sure what food or gifts they sell now. I'm taking off a star because it's hard to figure out. They started selling grocery store ice cream mixed in with other ice cream. It just doesn't make sense to me and it means I've not gone back.
It's more cafe/bookstore than mercantile now. There are books for sale and you can sit in a big leather couch and read one.
Some of the candy (old fashioned and chocolate) and gifts remain. But far less.
The owners farm sheep and own a bed and breakfast. They want to give back to Ogden and the community overall.
The books come from a nonprofit in Salt Lake who help people recovering from addiction gain job skills (they also bought the furniture from them).
The books are used and cheaper process than Savers. Don't tell my father-in-law since he might buy out the store. There are even have children's books.
They're so friendly and it feels like family. Maybe because there was a lot of family there. But really warm and inviting.
It's totally transformed. I'm so happy it didn't close. This is this first day, so...
Read moreI called this business up to talk with the "store manager" regarding me and my 7 friends ordering and being told to "get out and never return" all we were doing was on playing a game on our phone while waiting for 4 more customers to show up then at that time we would all order at the same time (as ice cream does not normally keep for too long). We were transferred to Robert who explained it was his call to kick us out saying that because he has had bad experiences in the past he took it upon himself to kick us out before we could make messes (which I don't understand because we tried to explain we are just waiting for a larger group to show up... to spend more money in the establishment). I asked to speak with his superior and was hung up on and the phone was disconnected. I can only surmise that this "owner" is very weary of the kinds of customers he wants to keep and not all are welcome. I would use extreme caution before coming into this establishment and choose someone a lot friendlier and more well known such as "Faars" I wished him the best and told him me and my family would not be coming back as requested and I intend to tell every person I know of this experience as this was one of the worst I have ever been treated...
Read moreI wish I could put ZERO stars. My friend and I had heard good things about this place and were excited to try it out. The employee who was helping us didn't do a great job at all. He was very rude and didn't let us know at the beginning that we could only have three samples. When my friend received her third sample and didn't like any of the ones she tried. She was very disappointed to find out she was SOL because he then told her you have reach your sample limit and can't sample anymore ice cream. There is no sign anywhere in the store and we didn't get a heads up until we received our third samples. He kept saying that is our rule like something we should have already known but it was our first time coming to Burch Creek and definitely our last. He then accused me of being at his shop before because he recognized me, which really upset me. He definitely wasn't thinking of the customer or the business for that matter. I have never been treated so horribly and accused of lying at a little ice cream shop.... it was unacceptable. I would suggest never going there because no one should feel the way we did after trying to buy some...
