The bead selection is great, but I got scammed.
Initial impressions were great when I walked in. A huge variety of colors, materials, gems, and findings! The lady working the counter was very sweet as well when I asked for help finding items. HOWEVER there's apparently a system with sorting and buying loose beads that I was never told when she handed me a bead tray. Apparently, the customer needs to put beads into the trays labelled with the correct pricing. Otherwise, the lady at the counter will charge whatever she thinks the price is. I bought 10 thin, imperfect clear crystal beads and thought I was paying 50 cents each. Instead, I paid $6.50 each for a total of $65! I also bought 4 medium sized clear crystal beads for what I thought was $2.50 each. Paid $5.50 each for a total of $22. In total, my $75 order came out to $152! I didn't think to check the math until after I paid and left, and then went back a few hours later to return the overpriced beads. I checked all the prices and that's when I realized I was overpriced. I talked to the lady at the counter and her attitude had totally changed! She told me that returns weren't accepted and she would have to eat the cost...but what cost? SHE overcharged ME because the loose bead tray system was never explained (seriously, no sign or anything!), and I just wanted that corrected. She gave me $15 in cash and I left while apologizing, mostly because the confrontation felt so uncomfortable. Did the math again and realized I was still owed $62 and some change! I filed a dispute with my bank, but because there's no store logo or name on the receipt she gave me, they can't do anything. I'm sure lots of people have a great experience here, but just make sure you double check her math before you walk out...
Read moreThis store is my favorite place to shop for beads. The staff there are super friendly and knowledgeable, and there are hundreds of thousands of goodies to go through. I shop here frequently and I love to incorporate items I've purchased here into my jewelry designs.
As far as earlier reviews, stating that the beads are overpriced: Yes, you're going to spend more here. They have a great variety of different seed beads to choose from. If you want seed beads that are all uniform, splurge and buy some delicas. Otherwise, you can see right through the tubes and take note that there may be some different sizes within the same batch of beads. That's not Beyond Beads' fault, they come that way from the manufacturer. And you know what? Those beads can be really fun in the right jewelry piece!
The extra you pay at this beautiful little store is used to keep the lease paid, the (undoubtedly overpriced) Avista bill paid, and support the wonderful women who work diligently to provide an excellent customer experience. There are "cheaper" places you could go to get subpar customer service and ignorant staff to wait on you. Hint: It's at Michael's in the same parking lot, just north of Beyond Beads between Hobby Lobby and Cash & Carry. Go there and don't complain.
