This is a very small exhibit. Be sure to bring your ID and leave anything that can be considered a weapon in your vehicle, as they do. Search you and you will go through a metal detector. It has some interesting information, and it is eye opening. I think everyone can learn something here if they want to. A key takeaway is that u s a currency is backed by nothing anymore, the gold standard was removed. At the museum, you can pick up a twenty eight pound genuine gold bar, which is pretty neat. It also has five hundred one thousand and ten thousand dollar bills on display. I wish they would bring back the thousand dollar bill, It's just cool. The fed chairman is appointed by the president, so if he doesn't keep the president happy, he loses his job. Both political parties have kept the same fed chairman in office for a long time. The fed chairman has pushed for low interest rates. These long term low interest rates are why we people are suffering from high inflation. High inflation is why houses cost so much, cars cost so much food clothing, utilities are all expensive. We need political candidates, especially the president, who wants to reduce inflation. The problem most people would not vote for that president. Therefore the inflation...
Read moreIf you do not have your official CDC vaccination card, they will not let you enter period. We spent the whole morning driving around town to get a proof of vaccination from Walgreens, called ahead to ask if what we have is sufficient (apparently we called the museum number and it’s sufficient proof to enter the museum but not enough to access the building, and the museum is just so happened to be located inside the Federal Reserve building), also a negative Covid test result and none of them works. It’s up to the guards at the door if you can go inside or not. Even if CDC and federal agencies paused their requirements for vaccination proof, and I tried all I could to provide them what they wanted, they will find every excuse to not let you in. TLDR: The guards are nice but definitely not kind. Bring your official CDC vaccination card or don’t bother wasting your energy and time...
Read moreOkay... I know, you're thinking, seriously, can the Economy Museum even be a place worth visiting? The answer is, YES!
I LOVED it. My girls said it's because I'm an Econ/Finance girl, but come on, that's not true, this place is for everyone!
It it well laid out, just big enough to give you an amazing foundation, easy to understand displays and interactive modules, but not so much you leave feeling weighed down by the market and the money.
We spent about 1.5 hours here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Teaching finance, economics, the market, currency, etc. can be daunting and boring, but they have managed to make it fun and engaging!
WELL worth a visit, and it's free! Come on! STL is the capital of free things to do with the family, and this museum doesn't disappoint.
Don't forget to bring your DL to get past the security...
