The Downtown Y is an excellent choice for those looking for a straightforward workout experience. While the space is not as large as other YMCA locations in the region, the size suits the space and crowd very well.
Beyond the general exercise area where there are the are the aerobic machines, weight machines, and free weights, the space also includes two large classrooms that are used for a variety of classes offered by the Y (yoga, spinning, etc). The machines all are in good condition and are up-to-date. WiFi is also available throughout the facility. The locker rooms are spacious and offer many of the amenities one might expect (steam room, showers, hairdryers, and so on).
The staff is very courteous and friendly, while definitely promoting the YMCA's core mission and fostering a communal space. The space is kept clean and looks very welcoming. The crowd using the gym is primarily composed of folks from around Downtown and the office workers nearby.

It's great they have plenty of 2.5 Ib plates since I've run into too many guns where I need to bring my own. I haven't used it, but they have a 12 inch plyo box that I'm familiar with that's great for box squats. For the size it's pretty and has a nice variety of equipment.
