Bass Pro Shops — Attraction in Sun Prairie

I ordered a new gun online (happy, happy). It said there was limited stock for this rifle. Cool I understand that (happy, happy). After a day, no new info about what’s going on with my order, as no one reached out. I look at the order online and it says processing…(happy), hopefully they’re getting it ready at the store. I’m so excited to get it. More time passed. I had no clue what was going on with my order at this point (somewhat happy). I reached out to see what is going on. I was told that the gun wasn’t in stock. He told me that the gun should be at the store in 7-10 days (not happy at all). 7–10 days!, How! The sad part is, I would have had no clue what was going on if I didn’t reach out myself (mad). I asked if I can pay extra to get it here sooner? I was told they don’t do that. I asked if I could get some tracking information on the order so I can see what day it will arrive at the store. Nope! No tracking information at all (pissed). I can’t get any tracking info and it’s 2023. That’s crazy!? (Crying now) I cannot believe a store of this size can’t offer tracking information!! First and last time I’m ordering online from this company. Not that they care. Hopefully, it will arrive in 7-10 business days.

The kicker. When selecting pick up in store still says it’s limited stock therefore, it shows that they have one available!

New 8-16-23 Order a kit Monday evening. I called before I ordered the kit online. Because what happened with the gun order. Tuesday evening and no email saying it’s ready. Why? It now shows limited stock and my order has not been filled. It’s now 6pm and still not filled. I went to the store to see what’s going on. They had no answer why it’s still not ready. So I sat for 20 minutes as they got me my order. The group of people doing online orders seem lazy. I asked how many orders the get online. I was told some but not tons. So why does it take 24hrs to fill an order with the part 50 FEET from the pick up window!! Definitely not ordering anything online anymore.

I'm sure there are many people who love Cabelas, I am not one of those people. I've gotten nothing but runaround from not only this store but also the corporate end as well, with everyone giving the only response "it's our policy, sorry" and not wanting to anything to help a customer, or potential customer. My fiance wanted to buy me a particular handgun for Christmas. She thought the easiest thing would be to buy a gift card so I could get the one I wanted. She didn't know they had them in stock at Fleet Farm and her dad has gone to Cabelas for years, so she got a gift card at Cabelas. When I tried to get the handgun at Cabelas they did not carry it, so I requested a refund for the gift card. Due to the amount they could and would not refund the gift card, they suggested I order the gun. Due to the wait time, we opted not to order at the store but I attempted to order it online. Online ordering was not helpful at all, was just told it was out of stock and there was nothing they could do. I returned to the store a week later, very unsatisfied with my transactions so far, but willing to give them another chance. After waiting at the gun counter for 10 min with no one ahead of me, ignored by 2 individuals, finally a 3rd representative came out to help. I asked to order it and was told they can't order them, it's against they're policy, but there may be one or some coming in but they couldn't known when. I explained my ordeal and how disappointed I was with Cabelas as a company. He was very empathetic, praised the gun i was trying to buy, and apologized for the poor service I'd gotten. He was wonderful, but still limited to their policies. He advised to call everyday until it came in, which is still more effort than I would like or feel I should have to do. The store won't even take a name and number down. If you're looking to just come in, browse and chat with someone, they seem like they're excellent at that. I am not one to post reviews, but I thought this was necessary for others to learn and not experience issues. I went to the archery shop for an easy fix (adjusting my peep slightly) and almost ran into an issue; I normally utilize another archery shop, but figured I would try Cabela's due to the proximity to my house. The employee used an unconventional way of adjusting my peep by taking my string off and removing twists from my string; I disagreed with this technique, but I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. They handed my bow back and said "all finished." I requested to shoot in the range before leaving to ensure proper placement of the peep and make sure that the string was put on properly, in which he acted surprised, but allowed me to do so. As I started to draw, I heard a noticeable click sound and stopped drawing my bow immediately (I am always cautious when drawing my bow after it has just been worked on). The technician proceeded to tell me "okay, maybe try again." I tried a slight pull again (not enough to draw) and heard the same click. I inspected my bow and noticed that my string was about to fall off of my cam, in which I proceeded to tell the employee. The employee frantically went back to his workshop to fix the problem. Again, I asked to shoot again afterward as he said, "well that would have been bad if it derailed." I have not had any issues with my string since, but my peep is now rotating awkwardly as I shoot it. Unfortunately from going to the Archery shop, I almost derailed my bow, and the original problem is worse than when I was coming in to Cabela's.

I do not post this for incentive or to make people feel poorly of their work, but more as a teaching opportunity for individuals that may be new to archery in order to avoid costly expenses and even harm to themselves or the people around them. I will continue to shop at Cabela's, but will not be utilizing the archery shop. I hope that this was...
