Produce was just okay. Only 3 vendors had actual vegetables and fruit. Lots of cheap jewelry and typical homemade crafts. The cantaloupe melon we got was tasteless. Cakes were crunchy but expensive. The corn was okay but not very sweet and $1 per ear was too much. Heirloom tomatoes were good. Blueberries from the blueberry man were spot on. As for the baked and homemade goods, one would expect homemade goods to have fresh wholesome ingredients, not propylene glycol, sodium benzoate (a suspected carcinogen) vanillin (artificial ingredient), and caramel color (artificial colorant) added. As for the homemade candy, it was full of artificial colors (linked to autism and ADHD), artificial flavors and preservatives. There were at least 4 GF sellers and I didn’t expect to buy the artificial stuff, since it was homemade, so I was shocked at the ingredients upon arriving home after dropping $8 on a small coffee cake. You can get that stuff at the grocery chains for 1/3 the price. As a baker and home chef, I should have known better. The honey and Venezuelan arepas were probably the healthiest and freshest thing there, as the veggies are not organic or non GMO. The local beef is some of the best you can purchase, anywhere. The butcher offers a few uncommon cuts of beef that have become my family and friends favorites. Read more4/23 Farmers Market Surfside Beach SC. Gotta feel lucky to have this occurrence weekly in our small town. Lots of local vendors and some town people as well. Lots to purchase, clothing, Joey, bread, produce, pastries, pies and cooked food. Burgers, Dogs, coffee and some excellent foods from other areas.
