AMC Surprise Pointe 14 — Attraction in Surprise

Avatar in 3D Broken - No Warning From AMC - 23Sep You read that right, this isn't a joke. The Avatar re-release in 3D was unwatchable on the release date, as the polarization was improperly aligned by 45 degrees on the right lens. I found this out with everyone else who showed up for the movie within the first few seconds of it playing. Shortly after leaving along with a couple others to ask what was going on, we found out that management was well aware of the issue as it had been happening all day, the employees had been handing out refunds. In short, the AMC theater was selling unusable tickets, let everyone show up, buy their hiked up concessions, and sit down in the theater to watch an unwatchable movie. Why they didn't stop all 3D showings after finding out about the problem is beyond me. They could have just reverted to 2D and offered something in return for the more expensive ticket. I think most people would have stayed for 2D rather than nothing at all.

The employees at concessions told us that they knew about the ongoing issue only after we saw it for ourselves. They let us buy everything up and go in, knowing we would be out of there within minutes. Complete disregard for people's time, money, and patience. I'm no lawyer but something this egregious, there must be a decent legal case to be made here against AMC.

A side point: Auditorium 14, the one labeled as IMAX 3D, isn't a real IMAX screen. I don't know why it's labeled as such, but if you want to see what real IMAX looks like, go to Harkins Theatres Arizona Mills 18 in Tempe. That's where I went after this miserable experience, and the comparison is not even close. Harkins IMAX has an actual massive, crystal clear IMAX screen, and they give you wrapped glasses instead of AMCs used ones covered in grime that I attempted to clean myself. Harkin's IMAX glasses were also noticeably wider, clearing peripheral vision and adding to immersion. Do yourself a favor, drive the extra miles, however longer it is, to a real IMAX screen like the one at Harkins. It's an incredible experience and Avatar deserves...

The is great, the atmosphere not as much. Arrowhead has a small arcade, they only had 3 crane machines here and not very cool items to snag. I did enjoy the soda and icees on the outside for refills. The movie we saw was transformers and while the movie looked and sounded amazing, the chair we had was broken and 55% of the movie chairs looked leather damaged, I'm talking yard sale quality or worse. Makes you feel like you're sitting in a gross chair. This alone is my reason for the lower score. Replace those busted and torn looking chairs... theater 6 specifically

Update since seeing lilo and stitch: All the seats are old ripped leather. Some seats don't recline and many of the rooms have non reclining chairs as well. It's like they took their chairs from a hospice center after they used them for 20 years. It screams filthy. You'd hesitate to sit on that chair in public anywhere else. Popcorn is meh. Prices are offensive and they had 2025 cups and popcorn buckets but they refuse to restock them so you end up paying a fortune. Just go to harkins. Even though it's 20 minutes away you don't deal with this crap. The lines take forever at this location specifically as well, popcorn refills can take 10 minutes. Missed an entire scene of the movie. They don't intend to restock the 2025 loyalty items so you're forced to buy popcorn and drinks at unfair prices. This place robs you and then sits your on busted and torn chairs that don't even work. My advice is to take the drive to harkins arrowhead. The popcorn here doesn't taste very good compared to harkins. Fatcats is a theater closer but they don't have good popcorn either, at least their chairs work and look in better condition if you need a theater in surprise. Wish they opened a harkins...

Besides the "not paying attention mother who acted crazy and rude in front of her 2 kids because apparently she hasnt been to a movie theater in ages that she didnt bother to look at her tickets to see the seat row and numbers" this place was great. The usher was kind and helpful because I didn't care where my family sat but I grabbed an usher because I didn't want to be sitting in a row where others had purchased the seats but the usher stated that since I purchased row G that's where we needed to sit. So he made the lady and her kids move. They left as she angrily complained and acted ridiculous. I'll be honest, my husband and I felt sorry and embarrassed for the lady's kids because she was acting crazy over . . .nothing. maybe she was having a bad day, her own husband or partner couldn't be there with them, who knows why she was mean and rude. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I'm glad I did get the usher because after the rude mother left, another family came and sat in the seats my family and I were just sitting at. Now, I could turn this into a racial situation but why feed into that? The food was good and my daughters, neice, my husband and I had a great time. So, moral of the story, no need to be rude, pay attention, be kind and there is assigned seating. Ps. Would have rated this 5 stars but that lady dampened...
