I wanted to like this place but fell quickly out of like with it. I live close so it's convenient. But there's a huge problem with the aggression and unsocialized large dogs that go to the large dog side and since there is no one there to police it they run everyone else off. So people with gentle large dogs have to bring them over to the little dog side. So if you have a puppy or a small dog you've got 10 gigantic dogs running around with them. The dog owners don't seem to want to abide by any of the rules of the park and they're really prissy about other dogs touching the water. It appears to be their own little club and rules don't matter. Even unfixed males running around which is a definite NO in a dog park! I finally quit going because the city failed to fill the water containers on a hundred degree day. I guess the Park and Recreation people (only 3 people) have to service every single Park in the colony every day. But it's a hundred degrees outside and they forgot to fill the water containers that morning. There's no trees for shade. The bleachers are seldom shaded unless the sun is setting and angled just right. No dog pool for the dogs to wet their paws to cool themselves down. The city just spent the bare-bones. It wouldn't have been such a big deal that the city didn't fill the water containers if there had been any kind of a spicket for the patrons to use for themselves. But the city just didn't spend the money. They're much more interested in making sure everything's fancy off 121...the rich end of town. I have been taking my dog to The Shacks dog park on Windhaven in Austin Ranch. It's well maintained (as it's privately owned)and the dogs are socialized and well behaved on the big dog side. Don't abide by the rules your right to visit is revoked so there's no entitled assumption that the park is yours as a tax payer and rules don't apply to your fur friend. I'd like to see the city step it up and do something like the North Bark Park (George Bush and tollway) which has safe filtered pools/ponds for the dogs and tons of shade trees. A big grass area with chain links does not a dog park make! Oh...I almost forgot the rotten stench coming from the water treatment facility. It is easy to figure out why this land was undeveloped and the city was willing to put the dog park here. Nobody wants to smell that stink. Not a fun...
Read moreThere is potential for this park to be a nice place to bring your dogs. Right now it's sparse and difficult to enjoy on a hot day. Considering I was there at 10:30 a.m. and I was already sweating just standing there, I can't imagine being there later in the day.
There is a big fenced in lot for the dogs to run around. There is pretty much no shade and will be some years before those trees grow tall enough for there to be any. There is water for the dogs to drink but no water feature for them to get in and play and to cool off. There is one area for the owners to sit and watch their doggies socialize and very little shade there as well, depending on the time of day and where the sun is...
Read moreThis dog park is great. Lots of open space for the dogs to really get running. It can get a little crowded sometimes, but most of the owners do a great job of watching their dogs and the vast majority of people seem to pay attention to cleaning up after their animals.
There is a decent amount of shade for a park that isn't very old (not much chance for those trees to have really grown in yet), and plenty of places to sit as well as stations to help clean up the waste. There are several large containers of water for the dogs to drink, but it isn't always full so you might want to bring some on your own...
