The check in process was easy, the fitting for the life jacket/helmet went well. To preface my experience below, I have taken/participated in several white water rafting experiences through Colorado and Utah. Having said that - this was the first time that I was asked to sit in the middle.
I was asked by Lukas to sit in the middle between 2 men. Mind you, these 2 men had wives/girlfriends with them. Why wasn't one of the girlfriends/wives asked to sit next to them is a mystery. When sitting in the middle, there is literally nowhere to hold on. Sitting in the middle, I was also subjected to being hit by the paddles throughout the entire journey. Beat up and battered by paddle should be the mantra for sitting in the middle.
To make matters worse, I could not see in front of me. Why you ask? Because Cassie (a delightful person) was sitting at the front of the boat. I could not see past her so I had no idea what was coming up. In essence, it was like being waterboarded while riding a roller coaster without a lap bar - trying to hold on to air.
Had I been given the opportunity at the lunch break, I would have gone back to Wind River Canyon Whitewater as the trip was a miserable experience.
Finally, having paid over $130 to white water raft and being forced to be a spectator was not something anticipated. This is something that I was not aware of, would not have participated in and caused an awkward, miserable experience. At the end of the day it was an (disappointing/anti-climatic) expensive lesson learned. So, if you don't mind sitting in the middle then this is for you. If you like to participate - make SURE you get what...
Read moreToday I tackled a lifelong fear of water by going whitewater rafting. AMAZING doesn't begin to cover the experience from beginning to end! Emma and Josie were busy balancing logistics of the day's trips, phone calls, and selling merchandise while remaining positive, lighthearted, and professional. Candice was our guide. She set the bar high for future trips! And, yes, I do want to go again and again!! She provided guidance on safety, led the group on our raft through learning how paddle in sync, provided history of Wind River Canyon and the names of various rapids throughout the trip, and made everyone feel comfortable. Her situational awareness was amazing. She recognized her strongest rowers, caught opportunities for us to improve on skills, and ensured that everyone was having a blast. When there were opportunities along the way to let people get in areas of calm water, she encouraged it. The people on our raft bonded and had a wonderful time. I would HIGHLY recommend Wind River Canyon and Candice. I hope to go again in August with my son! Thank you to everyone! A very special shoutout to Candice for alleviating my fear of getting out of my...
Read morePicked up a few flies and used their shuttle service which delivered our vehicle every time to the right spot. Call ahead for guides or shuttles as the shop is often closed intermittently throughout the day for running shuttles for fishing and whitewater trips. We were there for a week and were hoping for some detailed information on fly patterns and some feedback from a guide or person in the shop who had been fishing. Sounded like they're super busy and cater almost strictly to their private section and lodge in the Wind River Canyon for fly fishing and whitewater trips. Asked for info on a guide trip (August) and their next availability was November so these guys are booked solid. Good service and awesome private water if you can get in (maybe 2021), call ahead if you need information, fishing report, guide trip and to see if they're open. We ended up meeting one their guides on the river and he was super helpful as well. We will be back soon to...
