A Day of Awe at the Kansas State Capitol
My long-awaited visit to the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka was everything I hoped for and more! For months, I'd yearned to experience its renowned beauty, delve into its rich history, admire its stunning architecture, and marvel at its incredible artwork and murals. This past week, I finally made it a reality, and it was a day truly well spent.
I started my exploration by spending an hour on the Capitol lawn, soaking in the vibrant beauty of the plaza's flowers and appreciating the various statues that grace the grounds. It was a peaceful and inviting introduction to the grandeur awaiting inside.
Once indoors, I began my journey from the basement level, diligently working my way up to the fifth floor. Every level offered a fascinating glimpse into Kansas's past. I took my time, reading and studying all the historical exhibits and displays. The depth of history housed within those walls is truly captivating.
Reaching the fifth floor, I knew I couldn't miss the legendary dome tour. And what a wise decision that was! Kansas is one of the only states that offers this unique experience, and I can't recommend it enough. The tour takes you high into the dome, offering an absolutely stunning perspective of the inner dome from above, while still enveloped by the outer structure. The engineering behind it is simply mind-blowing. The tour then leads you all the way to the very top, culminating in an exhilarating walk around the cupola outdoors. The panoramic views from up there are breathtaking.
Before I left, I stopped by the gift shop to pick up some souvenirs, a perfect memento of an unforgettable day.

Read moreMy wife and I took the historical and architectural tour here. The tour is easy to find - it starts at the visitor’s center on the ground level. You can’t miss it if you park in the visitor parking on the north side of the building.
Our tour guide was Norman. He was fantastic. He was very friendly, and very knowledgeable. It was just the three of us on the tour, and he was very interactive with us. We got to know each other a little bit during the hour, which was a lot of fun!
The building is beautiful and full of history. It is definitely worth checking out if...
Read moreI’ve honestly never been in a Capitol quite like this. The bottom floor felt like a dungeon, but the rest of it had a different vibe.
I had the opportunity to have a private tour yesterday with Beth, and she was phenomenal. I learned a ton about the architecture and artwork, and I had a great time.
I think the best part was that they have so many tours and free underground parking! Almost no state capitols offer free parking for visitors, so...
