My husband and I were looking forward to celebrating our first wedding anniversary together at The Weather Room tonight. We made reservations for 7pm. When we showed up we were sat at the bar area which is fine. Our waitress was great. Our service was fast and she was very friendly. The food on the other hand was not so good. We were very disappointed.
We like to treat ourselves once in a while to new places and like to try new places around the Topeka area so that is why we went here. I tried the Chicken Fried Lobster. I guess I really did not know what I was getting, but shrimp etoufee was nothing but bell peppers/onions and not a single shrimp. The lobster pieces were very tiny. The grit cakes had no flavor to them, and presentation of the meal just was not appealing. Not worth the price at all.
My husband had the KC strip. He ordered it med rare. It was slightly over cooked, we can deal with that but there was no flavor to the steak. With the steak on the menu it says it comes with a side and a salad. He got his side, and that was it. No salad on the plate. His side was the smashed potatoes, that we were excited to try. They were just boiled potatoes with a little butter and cheese sprinkles on them.
The calamari was decent and the mushroom risotto was really good. Other than that, our meal was not worth the price we paid which is sad because we love taking our kids to places like this to try new and different dishes. I hope they get things fixed and I see some positive reviews and maybe we will try again in a year time…. But for the price I highly suggest to avoid...
Read moreWe stayed at the Cyrus having stayed prior two years ago, and remembered having good food in the restaurant on the prior visit. This time it was a different story. We tried the Caesar salad—it had brown lettuce and bad-tasting dressing. My husband had the French Onion Soup, and it was too salty to eat. I had pasta with chicken added, and the chicken was seasoned and did not taste good—it overwhelmed the pasta Alfredo. Mt husband had a burger, which was just okay. The next morning we had breakfast. We wanted a full-service breakfast, not the buffet—and were told to fetch our own coffee from the self serve area. Water was not brought to the table until we asked, and service was slow, with only one server. The breakfast had undercooked watery eggs. Very dry toast (that was like dry bread with no evidence of toasting), diced potatoes that were very dry and greasy and not crisp bacon. No condiments, or butter offered. My orange juice, which was a long time coming, and which I took a big drink of upon it finally arriving, was spoiled and hoping I do not get sick from it. Oh, and there were several flies buzzing around our table at breakfast. A terrible experience overall. We will not dine or stay again as the in-house restaurant was a driver of...
Read moreMy wife and I went for breakfast. The food was very disappointing to say the least. Nice presentation but no flavor, very bland and boring. I got the breakfast skillet with fried breakfast potatoes scrambled eggs peppers onions and sausage. The highlight of this dish was the potatoes. They were fried to perfection very crisp. Unfortunately the flavor of the rest of my dish was so very dull, flavorless and left me regretting spending $14 on a dish I could of made at home for a fraction of the cost with so much more flavor. My wife got the southwest avocado toast. The egg on the toast was again very bland and tasted like it came out of a carton and was not a fresh cracked egg. The salsa top was colorful and pretty but the flavor and texture was very off putting. The atmosphere is nice and feels very elegant for Topeka though the food did not live up to that standard we did appreciate the cleanliness and service. Lastly they advertised 15% off for veterans and first responders which my wife and I are both of these. When we asked our server about it she told us she is unable to do it for us due to not having managers on duty on Monday’s when it this discount is advertised. It would have been nice to save some money on the less than mediocre food...
