Clean. Professional. Friendly.
What it's about: The Float Place is the perfect get away for anyone looking to escape life's daily over stimulation in exchange for a little inner peace. We live in an era of information that can overload the senses making it difficult to focus on what's really important. The Float place offers a unique service that allows for both mental and physical decompression. It achieves this through sensory deprivation therapy.
The Rooms: Each room has it's own shower that adjoins a float room. The float room is filled with warm water that is saturated with Epsom salts. The high salt concentration is what allows you to remain buoyant and to float effortlessly upon the water's surface. The walls are virtually soundproof, and the room is completely devoid of light except for dim LEDs that can be toggled on or off easily within the floating room. I personally keep them off for a full immersive experience.
The Experience: Floating is something that really needs to be experienced since describing it may not due it justice. I enjoy the get away from the many distractions life tosses at us, and when all external stimulations are removed the mind expands to fill in the void. I've experienced many things in there, such as surges of creative thought, new perspectives for something I was studying, and many times found a sense of clarity in my personal life.
The body, and not just the mind also benefits. Joints loosen, and your spine releases its tension due to the weightlessness of the body within the water. Stiff and tight necks now turn easily after a session, and my back always feels years younger before the undesired affects from a few car accidents years ago. You feel better.
Post Float: After the float you'll have time to reflect. There is a dedicated room for patrons to lounge and relax. Here you may enjoy complementary Teas, and/or alkalined mineral water. There are two couches to rest upon, and a table with note pads and a variety of writing utensils. It's interesting to see what others have written in the public journals they have here, and just as fun to revisit an entry you made yourself a year earlier. There is no rush to move along. The staff let's you relax and lounge for as long as you'd like.
Pro Tips: I would recommend bringing your own towel, shampoo, and hairbrush. You'll be taking a shower to wash the salt from your body, but your hair can feel dry afterwards. They have complementary towel, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, but I'm particular about these things and prefer to...
Read moreAs soon as you step into their facility, you feel welcomed. I go to the Patchogue location and the staff is amazing. They are friendly and very calming. The place is immaculately clean and there is an immediate experience of peace when you walk in. Regarding the floating experience, it is a 90 minute vacation from the external world. It is an incredible opportunity to look totally inward. This may feel different initially, but I promise you, floating is a way to a more peaceful and creative life. Floating provides the opportunity to find a lasting sense of peace and experience the simple pleasure of being in your body. I’ve been floating for close to two years now and I can say that each time it gets better and better. Each time I float, I walk out feeling like I’ve been on a weeks vacation. I feel rested and peaceful, ready to handle the stresses of my life. Floating is like rebooting a computer. It resets the body and mind. It enables you to start anew. As I step into the float room, I know I am doing something important for myself. When I first step in and lie down in the water, I am tense. I feel where I am holding onto stress. My shoulders, my neck, my back and legs all feel tense. I’m holding onto the stress in my life. But little by little as the float ensues, I am aware of the tension in my body and can gradually let it go. Half way through I experience a bliss beyond words. By the time I am done, I am a fresh human being. I can see clearly. I feel amazing. I find my center of peace. I feel as though I can handle whatever comes my way. If you’ve floated before, you know what I mean. If you haven’t yet, I strongly encourage you to give it a try. It is amazing and must be experienced to be understood. Enjoy...
Read moreI went today for the first time and I had a great experience. Starting with Nick at the front desk. A+ service. He walked me through all the steps with patience and kindness. I had no idea what I was in for and he could tell. Lol. At first I thought that there was no way I could last 90 minutes in a sensory deprivation chamber. That's eternity in a float tank! And it started really slow. The shower light outside the tank is on a 5 minute timer and that 5 minutes felt like forever. I took me a while to get comfortable with the buoyancy. It wasn't until I completely "let go" that I was able to enjoy my float. Turn off the body. Turn off your mind. It was the quickest 90 minutes of my life. Afterwards they take you to a room where you can kind of reacclimate back to reality. Water or hot tea is available. And a bunch of cool other things inside that room but no spoilers from me. You'll have to go to see. I recommend this, not only bc floating is amazing but because the people here and the vibe here are something I need more in my life. Life is crazy. 2 jobs, the wife and 2 kids, non stop action. The Float Place is perfect decompression from life. 10☆'s, especially at the end of a long work week. I became a member and look forward to my next float in 2...
