Harbor Freight — Attraction in Town of Catskill

I travel all around for property management work and have been to dozens of Harbor freights in NY state including Long Island. This is by far the most miserable.

I mean, the individuals that work here are seconds away from slicing their wrists and calling it the day. Just right there in the middle of gardening the employee will take their own life because you asked them if they had any more 50 ft hoses in the back. When you speak to an employee at this location about anything, sometimes I think somewhere in their answer is a cryptic cry for help.

It’s not the area. There is a Lowes and a Walmart across the street from this location. If you go in their it’s the usual Country like atmosphere with an occasionally citidiot.

I am convinced this particular Harbor Freight is a training ground for employees that end up in major cities. You know, where it’s just a bunch of angry nobody’s that really wanted to open a Brooklyn style vegan cafe but are such failures in life that they take it out on everybody in their retail job. Those overcrowded cities thrive on that rudeness and lack of personality.

In all fairness every Harbor freight in NY has miserable employees. It must be a terrible company to work for. Perhaps it’s better in other states. But this particular Catskill location is exceptional draining on their soul and it’s never busy.

So basically if you want to go to a Harbor Freight that is never busy but also have a piece of your soul drained this is the perfect spot to stop...

Very nice store. It was my first visit and the store is neat and clean. I saw staff asking how they could help customers in anyway possible. I was on a mission to find a 5 GAL. Kerocine can in the plastic style. No luck as I looked in every isle. 😣 No biggy. I saw many, many, tools etc. I could use. Lots of things to choose from. All I know is, I am glad I did not have my major credit card on hand. 🤔 I could of got myself into trouble. Overall, I would suggest anyone who has never been into harbor freight, stop in for a pleasant surprise. I think their prices are fair and even better then some other stores that I will not mention as I do not think it would be fair of me. Why did I only give this store 4 star rating ? Nothing personal, I usually feel there is always room for improvement/s. 😎

I called for stock levels on a particular item. They had only 5 left. I asked if could pay over the phone or if they would hold as I was driving there and was 30 minutes away. They would not do so, unfortunately, which was a small inconvenience, but ok. I got there 40 minutes later (storm damage slowed things down) and they didn't have any unfortunately except the 2 they were holding for other people. I was a little shocked to say the least and definitely upset as they said they wouldn't do this but did for 2 other people. The people were nice and I do use this store quite a bit since it's on the way to a family member's house, but I thought this was kind of underhanded and will just use Lowe's instead...
