I visited the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow, and it was a truly enchanting experience. This historic site is steeped in charm and offers a fascinating glimpse into the rich history of the area.
As soon as I arrived, I was captivated by the beautiful architecture of the church. The stone façade and classic design give it a timeless quality, and the surrounding grounds are equally lovely, featuring lush greenery and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s hard not to feel a sense of tranquility as you walk through this historic setting.
Inside the church, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The interior is adorned with beautiful wooden beams and stained glass windows that create a serene ambiance. I appreciated the informative displays that shared the history of the church and its significance in the Sleepy Hollow community. It’s a wonderful place to reflect and appreciate the past.
The churchyard, with its historic cemetery, is also worth exploring. Walking among the gravestones, some dating back to the 17th century, adds an intriguing layer to the visit. It’s a peaceful spot that encourages contemplation and respect for the area’s history.
The staff and volunteers at the Old Dutch Church were friendly and welcoming, eager to share stories and answer questions about the church’s history. Their passion for preserving this landmark really shines through.
Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow. Whether you’re a history buff, a fan of architecture, or simply looking for a peaceful place to reflect, this site offers a unique experience that should not be missed. Read moreSleepy Hallow Cemetary is located here. We didn't get into the church bcz of the busy Halloween wknd there! ♿ accessible, hilly cemetery is mostly scooter & wheelchair accessible, within reason. Note!! ♿Scooters have no brakes for going downhill!! Found out the hard way. It wasn't good.
Roads/paths in center of cemetery were not accessible by cars, wchairs or scooters this day. So I missed all that the walkers saw, that I couldn't get to with wheels. Bcz of the holiday wknd it was packed with visitors & numerous tours, so we saw only the back portion of this historical cemetery but really loved it!! Saw the popular bridge the headless horseman rode across, the Weeping Woman & other haunt-worthy, fabled mausoleums & grave sites, along with beautiful views of the Hudson. Could easily spend days here, in this historic & scenic area. Even my 13 yr old LOVED it & asked to stay longer! Plan to go back someday and see the rest of it, too. During Halloween, all areas of Sleepy Hallow is BUSY with events and the center roads in the SH cemetary are closed to exploring by car. It's all foot-traffic. Cemetary is only open to enter & exit in 1 direction. Most entertaining & scenic cemetery...
Read moreIt is one of the most captivating sites I've ever been in New York. It was an afternoon during the winter. The wind was whispering an old tale in my ears and the landscape was so much in sync with the rest of the picture. After a nice little walk, you'll cross the famous bridge stretching over a pretty stream where the headless horseman was seen (the legend)and reach this green, clean, well kept cemetery next to the church. You can read the tombstones dating back to the 18th century, and learn about famous families of the area and even in Manhattan, NY. You can take your sandwich and water with you and sit down on a bench and read your book while enjoying...
