I normally support my mother's computer service needs, but since I live out of state and was very busy at the time, I suggested she go to a local company for a diagnosis of a hardware issue. Unfortunately this company took advantage of her.
They were unable to properly diagnose the computer, and she had to wait nearly two weeks just to get the runaround about this or that not working. Unbelievably, after failing to fix her computer they somehow convinced her to buy a different refurbished one from them. She spend over $400 with them and got a computer that was the same age, yet they lied that it would be faster. It had a downgraded i5 processor instead of i7, a much smaller screen (not good when they have a hard time seeing), and a lower screen resolution.
As a kicker, and telltale sign of a shady computer company, they installed an illegally licensed corporate copy of Microsoft Office on her replacement computer. As the product manager of my own IT company in Iowa (not a competitor, out of state), I am well versed in the Microsoft Licensing terms.
Unfortunately I was not there to witness the conversation, but through some measure of lying they were able to convince my mother to spend $400 on a downgraded computer with counterfeit software, when the computer repair would have cost only $50 in parts had I...
Read moreUsed this place in the past and it was great. But today, I went in to get a new charger as mine wasn't charging my laptop. However, I brought my laptop with me just to double check to make sure something wasn't wrong with the laptop itself. So, I asked the guy in the front to just throw it on the charger and if it lit up, I would buy one. The guy went in the back and he was gone for about 10 minutes. Once he was back, he said something was wrong with the laptop as it was not taking a charge and it stayed on 1% for 7 minutes. Now, I was confused because it's actually working with a different charger and skeptical because I never had a battery issue with the laptop. So I said, I will buy a charger because mine doesn't even turn the laptop on, but the guy was telling me its not your charger, its your laptop and you can leave it if you want and we can work on it. Long story short, I said no, and bought the charger. Once home, the laptop immediately took charge and I have been actually using it off the charger at 100% with good battery life. I am not writing this to leave a bad review, but I really didn't appreciate that. I didn't get the guys name but he had red shoes on. 5 stars because I dealt with the owner before and I know he works...
Read moreMy computer is my business and I am self-employed as a tax preparer and my computer went down during the week leading up to Christmas. Needless to say panic ensued.
However I have used Connecting Point in the past and recommended it to many of my friends so I just had to give them a call.
My 7+ year old computer had a mechanical drive which they replaced with a new SSD drive (look it up) and I now have a new computer for the very low price of $450.00 which was parts and labor, all done in 4 days just before the holidays.
The service department was in contact with me through every move, checking with me about what route to go and the price of everything including labor. I couldn't recommend a better computer repair experience, there should be a 10 star rating for...
