Final Update (May 2021): I couldn't believe what I saw. The amount of selection of stickers has been cut in half. No picnic themed crafts or outdoorsy decor featured in the front. No summer-wedding themed products featured. No Memorial Day products.
And my biggest beef?
The only items for Pride were located in what looked like a discount stand for little kids IN THE BACK OF THE STORE.
If you don't really have anything for May or preparing for June for Pride, and choose to feature Independence Day decor 2 months early (which doesn't make sense since it is all already fully assembled), you should be honest about your choices and might as well have not have put any Pride stuff out at all. Talk about "Back of the Bus" treatment.
I'm fine if a business decides not to sell things related to Pride (which is odd being that Michael's always had Pride product starting mid May every year alongside of summer wedding crafts). But this... was a real insult to injury, Michael's. Won't be coming here anymore.
Update #2 (November 2020): Not enough cashiers open for the level of customer volume.
Update #1 (January 2020): Good prices, good deals, and a fun place to be... But one cashier on the floor is not acceptable. A manager should be present to assist their employees. Minused a star because, to me, it seems like the management has gotten worse by being absent from the floor.
Original review: It's like being a kid in a candy store! I have been going here for years. There is so much, not a single type of art or craft tool missing! I usually go there to buy stickers for letters and cards I mail, and get beads and charms for simple jewelry I want to make for friends! I don't see too many employees walking the floors, but regardless of how many or who they are, they keep the store clean, and that is very important in a place like this!
The downside is the amount of registers opened; there are 2 at most open every time I have visited. I don't mind waiting (which can become a fairly long wait), but it brings out the ugly in people and it is not good. I'm not sure if the lack of opened registers is because the store is understaffed or the store is not well-managed. I feel like a manager should be present to address these irate customers.
Overall, I like shopping here due to what they have, but once again, I feel like management should play a bigger role.
IMPORTANT: It's not a matter of the quality of work of the employees--they work hard. And, yes, it would be great if these crazy customers would learn to behave and honestly not scare the kids and their parents waiting in line... But since people will be people, I really think there needs to be a firm and consistent managerial presence on the...
Read moreCame in for their clearance sale. Not all items are properly marked so I did require a price checker. I walked around the whole store twice to find only 1 price checker available. Of course with covid 19 they are short on staff. Not a deal breaker but I can imagine clearance shoppers with a cart fill of things having a hard time.
It's great they had signs labeled on the floor by the cashier 6th ft apart and people are following it.
Pently parking in the lot. Many shopping carts available. I do recommend this location.
April 30, 2023 update. Been some time since I wrote a review about here. Came in for birdhouse painting event. They host these event on Sundays from 2-4pm. I registered online but nobody asked or checked. The staff hosting is very friendly and helping to kids and parents alike. My daughter was having so much fun. I end up staying the whole 2 hours.
Since covid is in the past. More staff is working around. Clearance are marked with pricing on them.
Overall. This...
Read moreI recently visited Michaels in Manhasset to purchase craft supplies and had an unfortunate experience at the checkout counter. The cashier, Sydney, gave me $30 in change, all in $1 bills. When I politely asked if she could provide $10 bills instead, she said she couldn’t do it and didn’t even try to find a solution or ask her manager for assistance.
A few minutes later,( her manager?)John, came over to refill her register with cash. I tried to express my concern to him, but he refused to even hear me out. While I understand the staff may have been busy and overwhelmed, the lack of effort to help and the absence of empathy made me feel unimportant as a customer.
A little consideration, such as listening to the issue, explaining store policies, or exploring possible solutions, could have turned this into a positive interaction. I hope the team at Michaels can work on improving their customer service by being more attentive and proactive in addressing...
