My girlfriend and I visited here for an afternoon daytrip on 17 August 2023. It was fun walking through and seeing items from the lighthouse's history, such as cannon balls from the War of 1812 and one of the original oil lamps that lighthouse keepers placed inside the Fresnel lens at Sodus Point Lighthouse. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse tower and saw the 3½-order Fresnel lens currently in place. The hatchway from the ladder to the lens is narrow and required a bit of twisting to angle myself right, but the docents had warned us. We arrived as the museum was closing. I can't speak highly enough about what a special tranquil place this is. Would be gorgeous for outdoor celebrations like weddings etc.
It's in the village of Sodus Point and walkable from most places in the village amidst lovely year-round and cottages. This place and Sodus Point are unique and special.
I've seen many many lighthouses and this one is different and unique in its beauty and setting. Highly recommend.
Next time I want to go inside when the museum is open. Check hours for going inside and well worth the visit if just walking...
Read moreWe found this place by accident & it did not disappoint. The staff was very knowledgeable & available to answer any questions about the history of the Lighthouse & area. You're able to climb to the top of the Lighthouse & the view is amazing! We were there the first week of November so it was nice & quiet, not a lot of people so we were able to enjoy touring the rooms & taking our time without feeling rushed. It's a beautiful location, inside & out. If you're in the area, during open season, please make time...
