We are in town visiting and did two food shopping trips exactly one week apart in two competing supermarkets down the street from each other. Now this is not perfect by any means and some of the items we purchased were different and would affect the final bill paid. But we instead kept a close tab on certain items that we tend to purchase often, or weekly if you will. Again this will not be perfect and is only our results. On the items that we purchase often, we found this Hannaford to be quite a bit less expensive than their competitor just down the street on pretty much every item we paid attention to. It was also this way with the same two stores down where we lived, not far from Kingston. But this gave us the opportunity to check in exactly one week shop at the different stores. The competitor down the street did have a sale on one item that basically brought the price on that item down to slight less expensive than Hannaford. But their normal price is quite a bit higher. The final bills although not exactly the same total items, also reflected a much higher lower bill at Hannaford. I want to point out that only a few items were different. And we tried to take any difference into account on our price differential. Anyway, prices aside. This Hannaford seems nice inside. It did seem clean and the employees I spoke with seemed friendly. Why are so many of the same name stores laid out so totally different?(This is the same with all supermarkets) A little consistency goes a long way. We did have issues navigating the unfamiliar store to find the items that we were looking for, as we did with the competition. Familiarity is your friend when shopping and makes that much easier. So the regular folks probably zip right through knowing where things are in an orderly fashion. The parking area I found better to navigate than some, but still not the easiest. But again, it may get easier when more familiar with that particular store. We found the deli and meat sections better in Hannaford. But to be fair, we shopped just a little bit earlier on the Hannaford week than the competitor's week. So I think it was a little quieter. Maybe, maybe not. All in all, I found this Hannaford to be a nice store, with some nice features. In our case, they did have much lower prices on the items we purchased. Now this may not be this way for you. But it was for us, as we have seen in the past at the same two stores near our home. I do want to point out that we no longer live in this area and do not normally shop at either of these stores now. This was all my idea to do this comparison based on our past experiences with the two named stores where we...
Read moreI shop and get my prescriptions filled there reg. the pharmacy staff are great. they get a 10star. overall I like pretty much everything but I also shop at shoprite pretty much equal. the meats and seafood are both quite good and so is the produce. while they both have good to great sales on meat and poultry and while there are sales on seafood, the reductions are not as much as what you save on meats. ex hannaford had a great sale on porkchops. $.75 lb. yes thats right. so I bought 2 huge packages that only cost me the normal price for maybe 2 to 4 chops. these were a gift to a friend who loves chops. each pak cost me about $2.50 each, so at $.75 lb that meant for $5 I got about 6+ lbs. I dont buy chops so I dont know how much it would be. one of the meat staff pointed it out to me. I will say though shop rite has more sales on things I do buy like kcups. only better prices you will get is ordering directly from Keurig online, you register with them and depending how many in a box is how much you can save but to me the best savings is auto order any number of weeks between 4 to 12 weeks and any order of 4 boxes gets free s&h and being an auto buy, i thing still gets you 25% savings plus the variety of coffees, almost any type: beans, ground, kcup, rivo pods which is a Keurig machine (best n easiest to make espressos, lattes and cappuccinos HOT OR COLD FOAM. so you can make any hot coffee bev into a cold one w ice and the cold milk frost. hard to find rivo machine. found mine at bed, bath & things. the milk foamer part is worth it. no more holding a milk cup up and down repeatedly. the machine does it all. prob $99 if you find on sale. not on sale could be $100 - $199, depending on where you got it. So there you got, what 3 /4 reviews for the...
Read moreBE VERY CAREFUL... using the shopping carts at town of ulster hannaford. I checked out , went to the bathroom and was walking out the first sliding door to return my cart to the 100 carts in the hallway and the second my cart got through the door way the wheels locked at I got jammed hard in my stomach where i have a hernia mesh causing me pain and my knee hit the cart. These carts are very dangerous and unsafe to customers . Please be careful I wish i would have known this would happen. The cart was within the store and not out of range as they can see on security camera. It was a faulty cart and should have been removed from the store but was put back with all the other carts. In fact the employee that came out blamed me she said it wa say fault . I was so upset then I went to do an incident report and na manager available today , another employee told me to write my name on a piece of paper and phone number and what got hurt on me and for me to call store manager tomorrow. . No one asked if I was ok, no one asked if I was hurt, didn't ask if I need help, sent me away like it was not important. And when corperate views the securuty camera footage thy will see not only what happened but also the actions of there employees. I'm scared to use a shopping cart now. Serious and Eben more serious is all the other people who are going ro get hurt from this very same faulty cart that hurt me is going to hurt others now because of negligence of hannaford and...
