If I could zero stars, I would. Haven Health of Saguaro Valley was awful. My Mom was there for 10 days, and did not receive anything resembling quality care. The facility was understaffed & the quality of the people working there are anything but "caring". In the 10 days she was there, she was only bathed once, and this was after we told them that she did not receive any shower at the hospital for the 7 days prior to her arrival. My Mom was supposed to be on a heart healthy diet, but received awful, spicy, non nutritional food, the food in my child's school has better/healthy options! Mexican Casseroles & other spicy dishes, and chili dogs are not heart healthy. Many days, my Moms call button went unanswered for more than an hour. She was not able to get the restroom on her own, and needed help. There was one instance when she was left alone on the bedside commode for over 45 minutes, and just needed help back to bed. They wouldn't even help her to the actual restroom. We were told that the "rehab" portion of her stay would take place for an hour or two each day with PT. This did not happen. My calls to staff there went unanswered, and at one point one (while I was on speaker on my Mom's phone), a nurse told her "we can't help you here, I don't know why anyone brought you here, your disease is too progressed for anyone to help you anymore"... how encouraging!?! I live two hours away from my Mom, and had zero faith in Haven's ability to properly care for my Mom. They kept her VERY drugged up while she was there, often giving more sedatives and pain medicine than she needed, I guess they were trying to keep her quiet. This was very disturbing, as there were days where she could barely wake up or lift her head from her pillow. I was worried for her safety. When we tried to take her from home earlier than her release date, the facility threatened us with billing us for taking her home early vs. billing her insurance. We were worried for her safety and well being. I am happy to say that Mom is home now, and progressing MUCH BETTER than she did at this horrible place. I would NEVER send a loved one to Haven of Saguaro...
Read moreMy brother was admitted there after a serious car accident. 2 broken wrist, 2 severely broken legs, ruptured bladder, cracked sternum and 2 broken ribs Nursing staff was rude(not aids or therapists they were polite)....one day when inquiring about his physical therapy they insisted it had already been done even though family had been with him all day and knew it hadn't..... because of the severity of his injuries staff was timid and unsure how to transfer him from bed to wheelchair etc. making no effort to hide their lack of confidence in knowing what to they were doing. At one point even referring to his injuries as looking "scary" in regards to being comfortable when handling him. As I read in another review, he was also released from the center with less than 24 hour notice the day after a major surgery on his leg and sent him home to his 2 story apartment (with no elevator and 18 cement steps) with his 2 broken arms and 2 broken legs AND an unhealed ruptured bladder!! Our family is from Ohio so my 72 year old father is staying to be his caregiver. When discharged they were "loaned" a transfer board and wheelchair even though we had been told the week prior that one had been ordered for him through his insurance (which didn't happen). I have worked in nursing homes and my mother who had Ms was in a nursing home for 10 years so I am very familiar with how things operate in these settings. No chairs were provided for guests to sit in while visiting. If u wanted to sit u were to walk to the common area to get a seat and were expected to return it upon ur departure. Facility was clean and front desk/activities staff were super nice and did a good job on there end for the residents. So if ur loved one is concerned about being entertained by the activities and not concerned with their health than this would be the place. If ur concern is about physical therapy or being in confident caring hands for their recovery I would definitely steer clear...
Read moreThis place saved my grandma! My grandma had hip surgery, and needed to stay at a facility to recover since she is 88 years old. She needed rehab care at a skilled nursing facility. We started off at Park Avenue, but I knew my grandma was being neglected being there, too many negative things to mention and type on here. BUT THEN, I desperately arrived at The Haven Saguaro, to find good care for my grandma, and that is where I met Barry Smith, this person was absolutely amazing, from understanding our desperation to get my grandma out of a place that was neglecting her to guiding us through the insurance process of transferring facilities. Barry was the best person to have crossed paths with at The Haven. I believe every person NEEDS a person like Barry Smith in their facilites. Along with the attentive, kind and patient nurses my grandma had, making sure she felt at home- the combination of everything was essential for my grandma to have. Barry Smith, Rose, and Jennie Grijalva were not like any other managing facility officers, they were more than that- they were human with others. They understood the needs that were not being met for my grandma at Park Avenue, they felt our worries and stress, so professional yet so human with us. I am forever grateful for all their help. If it were not for them and the facility- my grandma would not be walking right now after a hip surgery, nor alive with us right now. They truly changed the direction of my family's worries and future with his impactful help. Some might say I am exaggerating, but they truly saved my grandma- she is happy and healthy right now. And that makes me happy, because grandmas deserve the best. Thank you for your kindness and help, it truly changed the direction of recovery for my grandma and the direction of quality life for my entire family. My grandma is now home enjoying her 90th...
