We went to the skating center today for a birthday party, (Saturday). The room wasn't available until 2:30, but we got to start skating at noon. That was a plus. My husband and I were adults with no children so we paid our own admission, $6.50, plus $3 skating rental to leave the paid skating to the kids in the party. That admission for a 4 1/2 hour skating session was very reasonable, we thought.
The skates are OLD and are all men's sizes. I had worn thick socks and was glad to have done so. One other adult in the party said his new socks stunk pretty bad after taking his skates off. Mine did not. I witnessed an employee disinfect each skate as they were returned.
Although the look of the rink took me back to the 80's, I thought it still looked pretty good. The carpet was maintained fairly well, considering the amount of kids spilling food and drink that must pass through there on a weekly basis. A great deal of it actually looked new albeit the pattern old. The rink looked rough in spots, but we had no issues while we were skating. The kids certainly took no notice and had a terrific time.
The ladies restroom didn't have a cap on the sewer line and smelled pretty bad. However, it was quite usable. Sinks for washing hands are on the outside of the restroom. Handy for keeping an eye on kids when they just need wash up after eating.
It was nearly 90 degrees outside and warm in the building. There were a few spots on the rink where you could really feel the air conditioner blowing. I'll dress cooler next time.
There was no wall to skate along on one end because of several benches placed for skaters. (That would be a plus for beginners.) However, they do have a type of walker with wheels available for rental for $5. There were three heights that I noticed, although I wish they came a little taller for the adults that need them. It had been 16 years since I put on a pair of skates and wasn't that good back then, so I was grateful they had them and certainly had $5 worth of fun for the cost. They moved very well on the floor and gave me extra confidence. Several people in our party gladly rented them.
The party rooms are not private, but areas divided by walls near the snack bar. They had two picnic tables, one set with plates, napkins, cups and place mats for our smaller party. There were also birthday balloons. We brought our own cake in. They provided soda and vanilla ice cream cups for the party goers. It was fine for our group.
The staff was very courteous. Someone was always right there to help me up when I fell down!
The music was great and not too loud.
We can't...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place needs work. The skating floor was bowed in places, the wall carpeting had a big rip in it, and it just needs some general TLC. We arrived as they opened and within 30 minutes, it was clear that there was a distinct lack of management of the rink floor. There was a collection of about 20 cones on one end of the rink which created an obstacle to have to skate around. I counted 14 of those skate triangles on the rink at one time, along with two occupied strollers, which made it hard to skate in the first place, but they would go in both directions with noone stopping them. Add teens skating backwards and others looking down on their phones and it was like Mario Kart, Toad's Turnpike on skates. The stroller kids would cry and the siblings would stop dead, creating another roadblock to dodge, while the parent cut a straight line to them, creating yet another hazard to avoid. After about 45 min, they noticed that one of the strollers had a drink on it and announced the rules: no drinks, skate in one direction, and no speed skating, which noone enforced. My daughter and I helped several kids back to their feet while the official flew right by. Within an hour of opening, I had to turn in my skates. It was that or mow over a child with a stroller going in the wrong direction or bowling thru a collection of skate triangles as they huddled together to share their last...
ย ย ย Read moreAll I have to say, please update try your skating rink... It's disgusting, moldy, and over priced. It's a good place to come for some fun but bring in your own snacks, own skates, because skates are 4 dollars and just entering cost 11 dollars. For 4 people to skate it cost 60 dollars and there menu is over priced. 1 small churro: 2.75 1 small pretzel: 2.25 Small bag of popcorn: 3 And there drinks just over priced. The vending machines are not even in order, it stinks like moldy cheese and 10 counts of bounce that ahh.. ๐ I'm not even playing . When I pay 15 dollar I expect to skate the entire time., but they have calls for games, parties, and pro dancers. Ik that something ppl who have that luxury would want but I wanna skate the entire time so I need for them to have an occasional hour for those ppl who want that. not only this. and everything above but there stank ahh bathrooms gave me the heaviest headache. The only reason this is getting a two is because they have good music. New flooring, new books, clean walls, and maybe there will be less shootings here. Due to all the heavy shooting I might stop coming here. Ik they make enough money bc they've been running for the longest. Ik I would go to another skating rink if...
