I visited East Potomac Golf Links on June 2nd, 2024, to celebrate my twin sisterās and I 31st birthday with our friends but our experience was far from celebratory.
We approached Stephen at check in and firstly informed him that we were 30 mins late to our last tea time rsvp (we had 3 set up) and wanted to know when the next available times were. His communication style was immediately poor and very distasteful and he lacked a great deal of customer service.
At one point during our interaction , after he informed us that the next tea time was 7 pm (3 hours later) I said is there anything sooner that we can do ? Perhaps we can walk the course. To which he replied āwhat time was your reservation ? I said 3:48 then he responded āok and what time is it now?ā To which I responded sarcastically āOh i donāt know would you happen to have the time on the computer screen right there infront of youā His tone when asking me what the time was was nasty, dismissive and this exchange set a negative tone for the rest of our visit.
As if that didnāt make matters worst
It was now 7 pm (3 hours of waiting patiently) We were about 10 minutes into driving on the course when Stephen (stationed at check in) approached us on the golf course. He angrily approached my party and I and said that there were complaints of someone hanging off the golf cart and that to whomever it was they needed to give him the keys immediately. I then said āwell that was me but I was only recording a video but I wasnāt driving, I was the passengerā he then repeats himself angrily āi need the keys right nowā he then goes back and forth a bit with my friend who finally says āshe wasnāt driving so she has no keys to give you; she was the passenger recording a video from the golf cart and it wonāt happen again, so thereās no need to take the keysā
Stephen then said ādonāt let it happen againā, stormed off got back in his cart and before driving off said with clear anger āJust remember this is a golf course, not some sort of party place for you allā This remark felt discriminatory and completely uncalled for.
Now I am not one to throw out absurd accusations based on one bad encounter because I understand people have bad days but if you are black I suggest you spend your black dollars elsewhere. I strongly believe that if we were white, Stephen would have handled the situation differently and treated my party and I with significantly more grace, respect, and dignity. His poor communication style and lack of customer service was completely unacceptable. Stephen was condescending and dismissive at our initial check in and our interaction made it clear that his discriminatory attitude was based on our race, making the experience even more disheartening. I will not be returning to this establishment due to this deeply disappointing and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a great public golf course. For being so cheap, the facilities are kept in good condition. The driving range now has top tracer (like track man) technology, which is free to use for all. All the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is laid back and relaxed, which is a breath of fresh air from the usually stiff and posh environment in other American golf courses.
The red course is a great course for beginners or for a quick 9 holes, featuring all par 3s. The course isnāt in great condition, but thatās to be expected with the volume of beginners who play there and for the cheap price. That being said, the greens are in very good shape.
The white course is a step up from the red in that some holes are longer and more difficult; it does not feature one par five so is a great course for intermediate golfers or for advanced golfers wanting to improve their short game.
The blue course is their signature 18 hole course. It is in very good shape and is the most difficult. At every hole one can enjoy gorgeous views of the monument.
After a session at the driving range or course, one can enjoy many delicious food options at the clubhouse restaurant. Nothing beats a nice greasy burger after a long tiring golf session. Prices for food are relatively expensive; but Iād much rather keep it this way if it means keeping the driving range and course fees cheap.
Overall I highly recommend East Potomac Golf Links for golfers of all skill levels. Itās a perfect place to come and play a serious round of golf at the Blue course; or for a laid-back, casual and fun time at the driving range or at the...

I play about once a week here and it's a fair course for the money. $32 walking is about the cheapest around. Add $15 to ride though and you're paying $50 after tax and at that price I'd rather play numerous other courses in Northern Va that are significantly better for the same price or
