Edgewood Recreation Center — Attraction in Washington

I am extremely disappointed with the staff at Edgewood Recreation Center. Over the last three weeks, I have been trying to set up my barcode to my ID, but the experience has been frustrating and disorganized. It seems there are only one or two people who can handle this task, but they are rarely scheduled or accessible to D.C. residents.

I called the day prior and spoke with Alexis, who was not only standoffish but was also withholding the fact that she was the one who would be in to help. She confirmed she would be there from 1 to 9. However, when I arrived, Alexis was not in, and the staff on duty seemed clueless and unhelpful. Despite having three staff members present, none of them could assist me, and I was told to come back the next day.

The lack of customer service and communication is unacceptable. It is clear that the staff are not adequately trained or cross-trained, showing a complete lack of interest in resolving issues or providing basic help. Today, all but one person, who had long braids, seemed Iike he wanted to help but didn’t know what to do. This clearly indicates that the team is not well-trained and anyone who does want to help just lacks the resources or know-how to assist.

My time has been repeatedly wasted, and no one seems to care about the inconvenience caused. Edgewood Recreation Center needs to address these issues urgently. I’m positive they “don’t care” because that’s the attitude they give off, but as a tax paying resident, I do care that at minimum my time is wasted and I can’t access this resource.

I cannot recommend their services to anyone, and I’ll have to go out of my way to go to a more professional...

The field is amazing! I really love the rooftop garden and splash center for the little ones. It’s a nice facility. It just needs a little more attention to the small things. The bathroom can get a little out of control during the summer because our beautiful children are everywhere and I imagine it can be hard to keep up. However, the machines being out of service more than four months is simply unacceptable. If the parts are no longer available, replace the machines or move them out and provide more floor space. I do appreciate the staff as they clearly work hard at keeping the use of what machines are available fair. Not to mention, they keep reminding people not to sit on the machine while scrolling on their phones and reminding them not to drop the weights as if we are at “hard core” gym where it seems...

Edgewood Recreation Center is a newly-renovated recreations center in Northeast's Edgewood neighborhood. Here's why it's worth a visit:

1. Amenities: There's a lot to do inside and outside. On the outside, there's a massive field, a track, playground, a garden and basketball courts. Pre-pandemic, the inside has a gym, classrooms, etc.

2. Views: There's an area with benches with beautiful views of nearby Trinity Washington University.
