I've attended a few immersive experiences, including the Van Gogh one at this very same location, and in comparison, this one was not well done. It was extremely short, with only 4 main sections, and not very informative.
The first section simply has a few plaques on the wall for reading. Which were mostly about Monet's career, his vision, and color theory. I was expecting there to be more information about his family, his childhood, and his adult life.
The second room was a home-like room with the walls filled with Monet's paintings; however, not one had a label or any information about it.
The 3rd room was my favorite, simply for the photo ops, but was still quite plain. The room has still images projected onto the walls, to make you feel as though you were inside his painting. There were two, basically identical, flower covered bridges, over a projection pond of lily pads, that you could walk across and get photos on that were pretty but otherwise there were just a few benches along the walls to sit on.
The final room was the 360 immersive room. Which, to me, was a bit on the boring side. It didn't do much to bring the paintings to life like the other immersive experiences I've been to.
Overall, we were disappointed with the experience, especially being that it was more expensive than the other immersive experiences as well. It was definitely not worth the cost of the ticket as I feel like I don't know anything more about Monet than I did before entering (which honestly...
Read moreThe immersion film in the large room was Good. The rooms leading into the main hall were dull, uninspiring and not interactive or in any way interesting. The main film was only good . The special effects were basic and the music was canned and lacked connection.
This review is based on several other immersions I have attended in the last few years in different cities and with different production companies.
I am curious if the same production company that did “Van Gogh immersion experience” in this same location, was used for this production. If so, they used their “B team” for Monet.
Why have two large rooms with the same fake bridge and pond with fake everything and garish green lights to depict the Giverny ponds??
The staff was uninformed and lifeless -and they now charge parking for two hours. There are no auditory headsets to inspire. Just an app for additional written information. Again, a missed opportunity to immerse your audience.
I love the impressionists ,with Monet, of course being a favorite. I’ve seen many originals all over the world. This was not a good representation of this brilliant artist. On the other hand the Van Gogh production was a “5” as I choked back tears throughout the immersion because of the evocative presentation . A FIVE!
I hope future immersion experiences by this production company improve or it won’t be worth the trip from VA to a remote end of the city through DC traffic, pay parking and be mildly entertained but...
Read moreMy one star rating incorporates what we thought to be a great exhibit. I would have given this a 2 if they could have corrected for the mistakes on their website at some point between 3 weeks ago when we visited and now. The website incorrectly listed AND lists the address as 524 Rhode Island Ave NE. That takes you to some U-Haul. The poor folks at U-Haul were bombarded with people visiting them asking where the Monet exhibition is. We know that because they were (with reason) annoyed when we asked them where is the exhibition. We also saw other visitors there asking them the question we asked. After we finally stumbled our way to find the correct place, we spoke with the manager. I showed her the incorrect address and “practical info” on the website. She had an attitude and said people use Apple Maps, so it’s just me. I then said then your practical instructions should say use Apple Maps. She then said thanks but it is just you. I asked for a discount to the parking fee that I did not know I had to pay. She said no. I to speak with her manager. She said “I AM THE MANAGER”. I asked to speak with the owner. She said again she’s the manager, as if I was disrespecting her. I simply wanted a redress. I asked again and then she quickly utters her name and phone number. I didn’t catch it but she ran off. She could hear me say “I didn’t catch that” as she marched off. They still haven’t corrected the website.
Let my review give the owners of the exhibit nationally pause...
