Museum of illusions in Washington DC. This is located behind of a building. You have to really look for museum of illusions. You can miss it with a blank of an eye. There is no free parking unless it’s Sunday. You have to park on a street. Our visit was on Saturday June 10, 2023.
As you walk up to the museum. You see a door and you walk in. You have a small space with a desk and coat rack. You check in at the desk and you walk up the stairs. The entire museum is on the 2nd floor. As you go up stairs, your tour begins with all the illusions in different directions. Most of the illusions are interactive which was fun and you get to see some cool stuff. My favorite was the spinning bridge. Make you feel like you was going upside down walking across the bridge. You have a couple rooms upstairs with different illusions and you are mostly done after you visit them all. They do have souvenirs to buy at the end.
The staff members was really nice and very friendly. They had a staff member upstairs to explain to you how each illusion works and help you take pictures for Instagram and twitter. This is definitely a place for social media influencers. Each staff member was professional and very knowledgeable about each illusion. They also looked like they enjoy their job. We had no issues with the staff members there.
The place was clean and even on a Saturday. We didn’t see anything dirty or trash on the ground. They made sure to keep the museum clean during your visit. We did not use the bathroom so we couldn’t tell you if they was cleaned or not.
The museum is very safe. We didn’t felt unsafe in anyway. The location is downtown DC and very populated area. I believe they had a cop or security in the museum to make sure everything goes smoothly. It’s a safe environment.
Museum of illusions is very easy to get around. The entire museum is upstairs like I said in my previous comment above. The only real issue is that it’s really small and not a lot of illusions in my opinion. The place was fun but not really entertaining. It’s mostly for taking photos that looks really cool for social media. That’s mostly it. It felt more like a tourist trap attraction. Don’t get me wrong, it fun to see the illusions but don’t seem like it’s worth the money which is $25 a person for a small space. We did get done about 20 minutes after checking all the illusions during our visit.
I would recommend this place but also I wouldn’t. The reason I wouldn’t because just feel like the museum isn’t worth the money and it just too small in my opinion like I said in the comment above and I would because if you want to try something new or just bored and want to check something different out then I would go to museum of illusions. If you are a social media influencer though, definitely check this place out. You should be happy about the results for...
Read moreAlways wanted to visit this place.
Went with my family for our son birthday during our Washington trip.
There were a few cons for me during this museum:
Price to get in, I believe, was rather a bit much. Even with a military discount. You don't consider the price as you don't see anything before entering but people going in and out, and the reviews with nothing but 4-5 stars.
Place was outdated.
Place took a quick 5-10 minutes to walk through as it wasn't many people there on this day, as well as being able to read quickly.
The place is pretty small. Everyone kinda on each other, but the staff was extremely friendly.
Something I did not like at all was after you pay for entry, they will tell you the precautions if you have vertigo, epilepsy or anything within that category. I chuckled about it sarcastically to the gentleman at the front desk whom I can tell is only doing what he is instructed to do, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Especially when leaving out and hearing it done to other families after they swipe.
The illusion out of all of this was the price, the size of the building that gives off the idea that it would at least be more than just 1 small floor, and these reviews.
Pros:
Staff is friendly.
Kids loved it. My son, 7 only enjoyed 3 things which I saw many children enjoy and revisit several times. The head platter, the room with the slightly long walk that gives off the illusion of it moving in rotation (forgot the name of it), lastly the mirrors.
Those were the only big hits. Which makes sense as to how small this establishment is.
Just look at the reoccurring pictures that are posted, that will literally show what all is here.
Nonetheless if you know what to expect upon entering, than it will work out well for you.
Just wished someone posted a honest review as such as this.
P.S
ALL honest 1-2 star reviews are tucked away in between the higher ratings. Read all reviews as I didn't until I...
Read moreI visited this place three times. The exhibits don't change but they do decorate for the holidays and while that's nice, it doesn't negate the issues with the staff.
Upon my first visit the staff was unhelpful or else just rude. I had asked who was in charge to complain and was pointed to a sandy haired middle-age woman. When I approached her, she ignored me and soon left with her bag. I then asked the lady at the giftshop for the contact information of someone higher up. She told me to ask Justin and pointed him out to me. As I followed him I found that the staff was being much more receptive to the guests after he talked with each of them. Justin made sure all guests were being taken care of and the atmosphere quickly became an enjoyable one. I decided not to approach him thinking it must have just been a bad day for the other manager.
Last week I returned and my second experience was just as bad. None of the employees were helping any of the guests and instead were all sitting in the giftshop gossiping among themselves. I asked the man downstairs who was in charge and he gave me the name Paula, which was the same name as the latina who was gossiping in the giftshop with everyone else.
My friends didn't believe me when I told them how bad the place was and when we came in last weekend, I asked who was in charge that day. I was given the name Vincent and what I found was that Justin was singlehandedly taking care of all the guests. He did an amazing job with pictures and explaining the exhibits but there should have been another person there to not force him to work so hard.
If you plan on visiting, make sure Justin is in charge as he seems to be the only one taking their job seriously and manages the place properly.
To the museum: give Justin a raise and promotion, or I guarantee you will lose your best employee with how inept your other...
