Reservation 630 — Attraction in Washington

It is a small slice of nature that fools you into thinking you've left the city. A rustic trail with the trailhead at Melvin C Hazen Park. We decided to hit this trail by using public transport. We got off at the Cleveland metro station on the red line of the D.C. metro. From there we headed north. The trail is 1 mile out and back trail with several small waterfalls and makes three easy stream crossings on stones and fallen trees. I would imagine this stream will be overflooded during periods of higher water levels and one might certainly need waterproof hiking shoes. But, we were lucky since it was a winter hike for us! It is a well-marked trail and is considered an easy trail. I personally will not call it a hike since it’s too small of a distance. Great place to walk your dogs and/or take a short stroll through woods. There is a bird nesting area in the park making it ideal for bird watching or listening to their sounds. The park does not have a playground or any grills. There is a small field with two picnic tables which I rarely see in use. In the woods, there is a trail that meanders along a creek that joins Rock Creek about a mile from the beginning of the Melvin C Hazen trail. Melvin Hazen trail is a great easy-moderate hiking trail. On it, you will traverse multiple stream crossings, and experience minor inclines and declines along the winding trail. This trail can be completed in approximately 20 minutes, and finishes in Rock Creek Park by the East-West trail and Pierce Mill.
