Great to have this lovely park in our backyard but the constant flow of trash from the sewer is pretty off putting. The trails are well maintained, fallen trees promptly moved off trail and the stream crossings add some excitement to an otherwise short 0.75 mile stretch down to rock creek. I typically walk through with a small bag to pick up trash but after each rainstorm a fresh batch comes down.

Shady respite from the bustle of Connecticut Ave, bountiful birdsong, a few more cicadas in recent days, and friendly neighbors. Several creek crossings - choose your footwear well and bring a camera!

Finally reopened!! Great hiking trail from Van Ness area on Connecticut Ave down to Rock Creek National Park with many stream crossings along the way.

I was initially disappointed. I entered the trail to reach the park from close to Connecticut Avenue and it's a short walk on a road flanked on one side by mansions and there's a steep drop with apartment buildings on the other side. Pretty boring initially but then you get to a more scenic and more natural trail about a half a mile in. It was a very pleasant surprise and probably one of my favorite places in DC. I only wish I brought hiking boots instead of my runners, I definitely didn't expect an unpaved trail like this in DC... I can't wait to go back and...

Very nice unpaved dirt path along along the creek and leading directly into the main Rock Creek park (although the trail ends at road that can be tricky to cross when there is traffic because there is no sidewalk/shoulder for about 150 feet and some people drive rather fast through the park). Lots of smaller deer trails. Most stream crossings are over stepping stones (no bridges, even on the main trail). Some parts take 3-4 days to dry up...
