My friend and I had an appalling experience at this hotel in the first weekend of June during a book festival weekend. The condition of the hotel was unacceptable. The floors were filthy, and the parking garage, for which guests are charged $25 per day, was in a state of disrepair and shared with a neighboring car rental business . There were warning signs about theft and damage, yet the deteriorating roof made the disclaimers seem absurd. With no alternative parking available, it was outrageous to pay $25 a day for a spot in a failing garage that not only couldn't accommodate the entire hotel but also was shared completely separate business that took up many of the covered parking spots. During check-in, the staff was unhelpful and did not give accurate information regarding parking, and other necessary steps to get our room keys. Our room had exposed cables, dents and small holes in the wall and a cracked, and broken vents on the AC unit. The hotel resembled something from a horror movie, with dimly lit hallways and dirty carpeting, and I did not feel safe outside when walking to my car because not only was the parking garage located in a poorly lit location, but also the area was not secure due to the business next door needing constant access to the already small and cramped structure and the alley between the hotel and the structure sorely needed to be re-paved and properly marked for pedestrian crossing. Our stay was deplorable, especially considering the nearly $500 we paid for two days. If this hotel is privately owned, Days Inn needs to conduct a thorough inspection for numerous probable code violations. If it is corporately owned and this level of service is approved, then perhaps Days Inn should reconsider its brand positioning, because such conditions are more fitting for a Motel 6 rather than a two-star hotel. UPDATE: Response to the review further reflects that this Days Inn is not actually concerned with the health and safety of its guests, nor is it really interested in making things right. Using excuses such as being “in the process of remodeling” when the AC unit has broken vents has nothing to do with remodeling a room. Also saying “parking accommodations did not meet expectations” is a ridiculous way of putting the blame on the guest for not being okay with the parking structure literally falling apart. You want people to give this location another chance when you do not even address, validate or even take accountability for the concerns raised in the reviews! I’ve read the other low star reviews, and the ones that don’t have pictures, have the same cookie cutter response about how the hotel is sorry that the guest felt like they did not experience a pleasant stay, and either minimizes or ignores the concerns raised. I’m glad I took pictures so that it’s not as simple to dismiss my issues as just another dissatisfied customer complaining over completely subjective things. Stay somewhere else yall, location be damned. I am convinced that the positive reviews must be either one offs or employees, or family of owner/employees trying to boost the rating score. Don’t be fooled. Unless something drastically changes this place doesn’t deserve...
Read moreThis hotel is billed as a Day’s Inn by Wyndham. I’ve been in some very nice Day’s Inn hotels. I figured because it was billed as “by Wyndham” that I could expect a better experience. My stay was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced.
My first issue is one of safety. The bathtub is not textured and there is no bath tub mat. I was concerned about slipping and falling in the bathtub while taking my shower. There is also no bath mat for the floor. I had to use one of the bath towels so that I wouldn’t slip and fall on the floor.
The parking area is woefully inadequate and shared with a car rental company. It is very hard to navigate because the space is tight. Also, I was not forewarned when I booked the hotel that there would be a $25/night charge for parking. I found out as I was checking in. This is the first time in all my years of staying at hotels/motels that I’ve had to pay a charge for parking.
The rooms don’t come with refrigerators or microwaves. You have to request them. This is not an unusual experience for me. I knew we would be arriving late because we had a non-hour drive, so I called ahead to let them know I’d want both. The front desk told me they wouldn’t know until I arrived for check-in if there would be any available. They do not have a “wait list’ that they could put me on so that a refrigerator and microwave would be held for me. I was told the charge was $15. They didn’t specify it was $15 per night. The appliances were very old and beaten up. I had to put something in front of the refrigerator door to hold it closed, and I was afraid to use the microwave.
I’ve never been to a hotel before in which I’ve had to use my room key to operate the elevator. The front desk said nothing about that when I checked in. My mind was weary from a nine-hour drive and it took me a while to figure out why the buttons weren’t working. It should be standard procedure to advise guests of such things when they check in. The hotel has two very small elevators.
Also, every other hotel I’ve ever checked into before told me where to find the wi-fi password. I was not told that when I checked into this hotel and I had to call the front desk for that information.
The outlets on the lamps were too large for our phone chargers. We were not able to charge are phones because the prongs of the charge were far too loose in the outlets to make contact. Fortunately, there was a charging device on the desk that had two outlets and two USB ports that we were able to use.
The hotel has a posted policy that rooms are cleaned every three days unless otherwise requested. I had told the front desk that we would not require maid service during our stay. They said “okay” and placed a “do not disturb” tag on my door for me (there was not one in the room). Despite that, when we returned to our room after being out on the second day, the maid had been in and serviced our room.
I would not recommend this...
Read moreWorst hotel experience ever! We will never ever stay here again. The hotel staff tried and did their best but there is a lack of communication between the manager, cleaning staff and front desk. The front desk did their best to resolve my issues.
One day I had to ask the front desk for extra trash bags since our room had not been cleaned for 2 days and our trash cans were overflowing.
The rooms are not cleaned unless you request to clean your room verbally with the Front Desk. There isn't a door hangtag that states: Please clean the room. We stayed here five nights and every day I requested, in person, to the front desk for our room to be cleaned and it was cleaned only once on our very last night.
We arrived after 10pm our first night, which was fine because I previously called the hotel to advise them of our late arrival.
The room looked nice at first, but it smelled of cigarettes!!! The old carpet and curtains and fabric chair all looked dingy and worn from the 1990s decor. The fabric absorbed years of the old cigarette smells. We didn't bother to ask to be moved because we figured the other rooms smelled stuffy too. This is a non smoking hotel!!!
The carpet was disgusting and we always kept our socks on. The room was not cleaned well and we found hair and dirt and grime by the bathroom sink. There were fried crumbs from a previous guest by the air conditioning unit. The room always felt stuffy so we kept the windows open and turned the fan on the air conditioner.
We found hair on our bedsheets! We were so tired from our flight, and at this point, so we didn'twant to complain.
Both bedside lamps have charging stations for your phones but they were not working. There is one charging station on the desk which we were grateful for.
The furnture is scratched. The bathroom shower rod is not adhered well to the wall and the shower curtain doesn't really keep the water inside the tub.
The room itself is well insulated and quiet. We only heard a crazy guest yelling and screaming and slamming doors in the mornings.
Their website states there is a restaurant within or next door but that is no longer true. That restaurant closed. There used to be a small concessions shop by the elevator, but now it is just an empty room.
On a postive note, the hotel is conveniently located 2 blocks from the Van Ness Metro station and there are some nice restaurants within the block: Bread Furst, Viet Chop, Thai Pad, Sfloglina ( Italian) to name a few where we ate and really enjoyed. There is a Burger King next stoer to the Days Inn, but we didn't go there.
All the issues above could be easily fixed. There needs to be a better communication between the management and staff. The rooms needs to be cleaner, attention to details. A simple door hangtag which states the guest wants their room cleaned is a simple solution rather than verbally telling the front desk every day. The furniture needs to...
