The hotel is well located in Washington allows relatively easy access by car to the great attraction. But beware, despite the exterior appearance of the hotel which is neutral, the interior looks like it came straight out of a James Bond film with Sean Connery. I would have seen the leader of the SPECTRE organization in the lobby. The decor is kitsch (carpet, bedspread, dining room, aquarium).
If you are looking for a small room, with a small television, an old-fashioned bathroom, the shower is contained in a contiguous place, a toilet bowl like you find in high schools, (you know the one that makes an infernal noise and waters you well when you are flushing) and a Wi-Fi that is intermittent: this hotel is for you. The swimming pool is a positive aspect of the hotel, located outside, it is practical in the summer when it is very hot. Well, you will say, the appearance of the hotel is very secondary when you travel with your family: I agree. Let's move on.
The hotel staff we encountered at the counter keep to the bare minimum and seem bored with their jobs or too many questions. I understand that it may be students who do the work before returning to classes. At least, I hope so. Perhaps they are simply exhausted from the task. I imagine that one day welcome screens will be able to answer certain questions that the staff are too tired to answer. We didn't use the dining room as the reception staff seemed too busy. After waiting a few minutes, we turned back and went to eat at a restaurant outside. There is no shortage of restaurants in Washington and we were satisfied with our experience there.
Parking is overpriced $50 a day to park our car at the hotel. Apparently according to reception it is the cheapest in the area. Of course not, parking next to the WaWa convenience store (1120 Vermont Ave NW Garage) is $35. So if you want to save $15/day, here is a simple option. I hope he will use the money he will make on the parking lot to renovate certain parts of the hotel.
In the end, don't do like me, do your research before booking. And be well informed about the price of parking and come and take the time to read...
Read moreThe Washington plaza is an old hotel. The pictures online do not reflect the actual condition of the hotel. It is a bit outdated. Upon check in I did not receive a warm friendly welcome from Khoran. For some odd reason, when I handed him my credit card and ID, he placed them on the countertop instead of handing them back to me. Seeing as though I placed my cards in his hand, I thought that wasn't polite. He also assigned us a handicap accessible room. Which was odd because the hotel was not busy so I'm sure they had plenty of standard rooms. I went back down stairs and Rachel reassigned us to the proper room without hesitation. We had a standard queen room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The room was exceptionally clean, but the room was outdated. We decided to hangout at the pool. Upon entry, the Lifeguard immediately asked me for my room number which was fine. I appreciated the fact that the pool is exclusive to hotel guests. We were able to secure two lounge chairs and an umbrella, the hotel provided us with towels as well. We went to the fabulous outdoor bar and ordered drinks and food. The food was delivered to us poolside. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! Our drinks were made perfectly so we enjoyed multiple rounds. We loved the bartenders. They were really friendly and the service was fantastic!! I hate that I do not remember their names but one was Asian and the other was Guyanese. Sorry ladies lol!! We also enjoyed brunch. The service was good and the food was delicious. Overall this was a great stay. Once we got over the aesthetics of the hotel. The Fantastic location ,cleanliness, delicious food, great service, and the pool truly made this...
Read moreTwo stars, and I am being generous.
We booked on some kind of saver type deal on Priceline. This hotel is fairly far from any convenient Metro station. No close by restaurants. The bar in the hotel was empty - not even the bartender was there. The room felt outdated and small. The two fish tanks in the lobby had seen better days. On our second night my family and I were awakened by a marijuana-fueled domestic disturbance in the room next door. So much for the no-smoking policy. After calling the front desk, I was cut off by someone saying “we know”. Security I guess did something after 15 minutes of more arguing and door slamming. After the couple left, the lingering marijuana smoke permeated in every breath of air we took for the next few hours, until daybreak and we could get out of there. My wife, children and I all had to deal with the smoke for hours. We could not get back to sleep and as a result, we missed our first tour of the day, since once we were able to sleep - we overslept because we were so tired and interrupted from the drama of the night.
We felt trapped and unsafe. Nowhere to go. What could we do? Upon checkout, the staff was completely unaware of any “issue”. Nonetheless, after requesting that the one night be removed from the bill, it was finally granted. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $10 and stay closer to better transportation and sights. This place isn’t where you want to bring your family. The sad thing is, out of everything we saw and did in the city, THIS is what will be remembered for...
