I had a terrible experience at Unique Thief Store, specifically with the manager, whose attitude was completely unacceptable. From the start, I felt discriminated against for being Latina, and this is not the first time I have noticed his lack of empathy and respect.
I was in the store with my children, who were in the toy section choosing what I wanted to buy for them, just like any customer would. However, the staff clearly showed their annoyance because the kids were touching the toys. I find this absurd since in any toy store, it is completely normal for children to try and examine products before purchasing them. Instead of addressing me in a respectful manner, this manager decided to reprimand a child directly, which is completely inappropriate. When he finally spoke to me, he did so in a rude and yelling manner, instead of communicating with respect. He even told me, âthis is not a childrenâs park,â which I found completely out of place.
In the clothing section, the situation was no different. The staff seemed unwilling to do their job, as they would stare at me with annoyance when I returned an item that didnât fit, as if organizing the store wasnât part of their duties. The overall attitude was one of indifference and a lack of professionalism.
What concerns me the most is that, after speaking with some employees, several mentioned that this manager constantly mistreats and threatens to fire them simply for interacting with customers. He seems to take advantage of his Latino employeesâ need for work, creating a toxic work environment based on fear and pressure. No one should have to work under threats and mistreatment.
If this store wants to maintain a good reputation, they should start by replacing their staff, beginning with this manager, who clearly lacks the ethics and leadership skills needed to run a team. If this is a corporate-owned store, I will make sure to escalate this complaint to the appropriate authorities. I hope they take action because discrimination and workplace abuse should have no place in...
Read moreI spent a lot of money at unique that day. I had a cart full of items but was told I couldn't take the cart out of the store. So I had to go out and get my bags from my car but I ended up locking my keys, phone, and wallet in my car while it was running. I went into a little panic not knowing what I was going to do because my phone was locked in the car too. I went back inside and told the clerk, who wore clear framed glasses and a long high ponytail, what had happened and she said she would tell the manager. I followed her to the back of the store and waited for her to go speak to the manager. She comes back out and says the manager is on lunch right now but he can't call the police from the store because he would end up getting in trouble. Ok, I ask if he could call from his cellphone then. She comes back out and says he can't because he's still on lunch. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. So she's walking me back to the front of the store and I ask her what her managers name is. She didn't hear me, so I thought. I asked her 3 more times b4 I realized she was ignoring me. I had to directly look her in her eyes and ask her what her managers name is. She said " oh, I don't want to say and get him in trouble". She absolutely refused to give me his name or her name... So feeling even more stranded than I was before I had to go search for someone who would help. I saw there was a tire shop across the street I went over to see if they could help. They don't pop locks but had no problem to look up the non emergency number for me and call on my behalf. It took them less than 5mins to Google the number and make the call. The cops were there in no time.... Absolutely no help from unique even though I was patronizing their business and spending my hard earned money at their location. I wanted to and would have returned everything I had just bought but that rude girl made sure to point out, with a smirk on her face, that there are no returns. Shame on Unique and and their...
Read moreNice large thrift store with new stuff arriving daily and with regular 25% off sales on Mondays and Thursday on everything with loyalty card. On occassion the may have a 50% off sale. Shopping there is a treasure hunt. The staff there are just wonderful...friendly and helpful. I stop in every once in a while and almost always find something... you don't know what you're looking for until you find it. Between great staff and high turnover of merchandise and lots of new items put out regularly, I highly recommend it!
Update 1 yr later. Pricing structure has changed with colors of the week and as each week passes it drops from full price, 25% off, 50% off to 75% off. Good and bad. Prices for many items start of at some rediculous high prices sometimes higher than what you can buy new from Amazon ( sometimes you'll see the previous door sticker on it for $5.99 and they were asking $14.99!). By the time the price starts dropping the box has already been opened or item stolen, broken or removed. Quality, variety and quantity of merchandise is not as good and maybe their sources have dwindled? Used to love the unique stores abd now...
