My 5 yr old son is learning about farms In his kindergarten class. He selected to do a presentation on pumpkin firms, so I reached out to Schmidt’s. I spoke with Trevor, who said to just come by and he will make sure somebody is available to give my son a tour. We met Tristan who shared with us the process of using the tractor to till the land make rows, how they use a long white tube to plant inside the soil and a special white plastic tube that brings water from the dam to water the rows of seeds. They keep a beehive on property to help pollinate to produce the best organic pumpkins they use no pesticides and plant in abundance so they have plenty. The pumpkins are handpicked because machines can damage the harvest. The most interesting thing we learned was farmers do not use the seeds from their harvest to replant but purchase from seed companies because the plants are patented and trademarked. This also helps them ensure the best highest yield harvest and disease free seeds. They were absolutely so kind, patient, knowledgeable. My son loved the experience and learned so much. All the displays in Harmons grocery store are their pumpkins. I highly recommend this farm. They have a fabulous children’s area with a slingshot, train, corn pit, playground which will keep children entertained for hours. Huge shout out and thank you to Tristan for the tour. It was much more interesting and engaging than...
Read moreI am writing regarding an experience I had today. My daughter attends school next to this market. I parked in their parking lot with the intention of picking up my daughter from school and then getting some things at the market. Immediately after exiting the car, I was approached by a man that said that I could not park there if I wasn't a customer. I explained that I would be as soon as I got my daughter from school. He refused to let me park there regardless and was very rude. After parking elsewhere and getting my daughter from school I returned to the market and indeed made a purchase. I showed the receipt to this same man and told him I didn't appreciate the way he'd treated me. He continued to say that I didn't have the right to park there if I was picking up my daughter even though I was a PAYING customer & had a receipt to prove my purchase!!! It is most convenient for me to make purchases here when I'm picking up my daughter from school. I have done this for years and as long as I was paying customer there has never been a problem. After the way I was treated today, I no longer feel like giving my business to this company/location which is a shame as I have bought produce from them & often get my pumpkins for Halloween from...
Read moreI appreciate how close this is to where I live but felt it was a little overpriced for what you get. We arrived a little after 7 and were told everything was going to close by 8 but we were still charged $9 per person to enter.
This place is geared towards kids 5 and under. They have a small corn pit, climbing wall, two slides, tricycles, a small playground with swings and goats you can feed. My son is 6 and wasn’t interested in much that they had.
On another note, they did have fresh butternut squash for a recipe I’m making so that was a win. I’m glad we went once but won’t...
