I would like to preface by saying that I have great respect for small businesses. My comments below are just feedback.. We come to The Chocolate later in the evening, when a lot of places are closed up (so kudos for staying open late) to have a cazookie. Cazookie is delicious, a bit pricey at $12, but what isn’t these days. Staff is always very friendly. Due to the fact that we come after dark, I have specific issues. Number one is, there is no good, lit sign. Even after coming so many times I have to look closely for the turn. Parking lot is also dark, it just looks like a random house. Number two is, I don’t know what this place looks like during the day, but after dark, it’s pretty depressing with its dingy lighting and decor that is seriously lacking. Random artwork on the walls, pretty bare set up. I don’t even go into the last room, it’s kind of creepy. This place has SO MUCH potential. Add some color, some wallpaper, comfy seating, plants… Also, half the time we come there’s no music playing. And because the rooms are so bare, every conversation echoes so you can hear what everyone is talking about. Overall, good food, good service, but please cozy up the interior.

The Chocolate is my absolute favorite dessert place in all of Utah. Their cakes are almost as good as mine. Each one has so much thought put into every flavor. They are absolutely beautiful, decadent and delicious. I've tried almost every cake flavor and I love that they have weekly flavors to try. My husband's favorite flavor is "The Husband" it is a yellow cake with chocolate ganache frosting and it is just one of the best cakes I've had that isn't my own. I could go on and on about this place. I've been going here for five years and it's always the best and exactly what Utah needed. Cake by the slice is great. On top of everything the service is fast and friendly. The cafes are beautiful. The vintage houses with the vintages touches makes it cozy. I recommend this place to everyone all the time. I always get my birthday cakes from here and same with my mom's. While the cakes may be a little pricey it's worth it. They are always decorated beautifully.

Cute dessert shop in a neat old house. There are a decent amount of dessert items to select from, most of which of course contain chocolate. My husband loves the cazookie, which is a freshly baked cookie in a tin with a scoop of ice cream on top. I tried a slice of lemon raspberry cake and it was great! The cake was super yummy and the raspberry filling had actual raspberry in it. The dining area is really large and consists of multiple rooms full of little tables and cute mid century modern furniture, and there is a bathroom accessible as well which is nice. My only really complaints were that it was a tad pricey, and that the floors were really sticky, which makes it feel like it isn’t clean. All in all though the food we had was great, the woman working there was super sweet, and we would definitely go again!

Hmmm, this is a pass for us. We were looking for a cool spot to hang out for an hour. Found The Chocolate on Google and thought we would give it a try. Super cute from the outside! We walked in, and I (admittedly very sensitive to smells) immediately was hit with a musty smell. I looked to see if anyone else in our group was reacting to the smell. They didn't appear to be. So, maybe it was just me being hyper sensitive. The lady at the counter was nice. We ordered 3 items. Mint brownie, Hello Dolly and a s'mores cookie. I nibbled on the Hello Dolly. I found it to be really dry/hard. I did anticipate that to a point. However, this was well beyond what I expected. As I got further into the bar (center), there was a notable change in the texture. More like what I had thought it should be. When I asked how the mint brownie was, I was told it was, "Dry. Like it's a week old." Which matched or would have been the way my bar seemed. The s'mores cookie, on the other hand, seemed fresh, soft, tasty. I was under the impression that these items were baked in-house. But, the lady behind the counter made a comment, "They (cake) came in this week." So, I guess they are not baked in-house. I appreciate the effort in making a quaint place to have a sweet treat and coffee. This just fell short for us. Additionally, even though we were the only people in there for nearly an hour, there were several areas that could have used some cleaning. I did take more photos ... but I feel like at some point, it...

This review is strictly feedback, with a one star, to catch the owners attention and not a revenge review. You serve excellent treats and it's a great place. BUT. We went in at 10:40 p.m., granted near to closing, but nonetheless with a late night itch for your skookie. Upon arriving, we found all of the staff sitting on the counters and tables, shooting the air, and the assumed manager already counting cash and cleaning out the register for the weekend. We saw not a single item available for purchase, not even a crumb for they had completely cleaned out the display already. Are yall sold out? No. Now, I could understand this if we came in at 10:59pm, but with a whole 20 minutes left before your declared closing....that's just stupid and a complete waste of any and all resources ( in my opinion) for a business. Fine, clean out your display case, but maybe we can at least order the skooki that we came for and understanding that yall are closing, we would get it to go. But NO! We were told the ovens had even been turned off and they would not bake your signature dish with a whole 20 minutes, to do so. Needless to say, we went and spent our money elsewhere and will have a hard time relying on The Chocolate for meeting any late night cravings. I just wonder how many customers have been turney away in the last 30 minutes of your operating hours like we were. I love your product, but your staff is...
