Curly hair beware!!

I had been curl training my hair for a while, trying to improve all the heat damage I had done, and decided to research places that say they specialize in curly hair. I needed a cut that would emphasize the volume at the top of my head and not look like a triangle at the bottom. I sent in pictures of the hair cut I wanted and asked specifically about curly hair cuts. They said yup! No problem.

As soon as she started cutting and making the bottom layers shorter then the top I KNEW she had never cut curly hair before! Every step of the process was so wrong. Curly hair is very specialized and given the literal all 5 stars in the reviews I trusted this place. This is the only haircut I actually cried over it was so bad! And even worse, it was so short I couldn’t even call somewhere else to have it fixed!! When it was curly it was above my earlobes yet still flat to my head with no volume because of how she cut it. I was so embarrassed to go out in public and had to straighten my hair every day because it looked horrible curly. Even my husband said it was bad (and he never says that about anything!) Needless to say I have been straightening my hair ever since and will have to start my curl journey all over again.

I didn’t even mention showing up early, and they only had one other client in there, and I still waited about 15 minutes after my appt time to be seen. Was very unprofessional and not a great first impression. Should have been my first sign I guess.

Anyways, if you have curly hair, STAY FAR AWAY!

Edit: I waited a year because I was so distraught about my hair that I couldn’t put my thought's into words. And yes it’s been a year and I’m STILL straightening my hair. I’ve regretted it ever since and still regret getting my hair done at your location. You can say I’m trying to sabatoge all you want but I want other curly hair girls to know what i went through so they are aware. That is the entire point of reviews! VERY disappointed by the level of service I received. First and foremost I made my initial appointment for Bayalage, I confirmed that she had me down for "bayalage" and she said "yes bayalage". When I sat in Imara's chair she said "no, I do not do bayalage, I only do highlights and do not agree with that process". I was surprised, considering that is what I requested and she confirmed. I had highlights and was fine. When I went to touch up my roots, she did NOT match my color and applied it sloppily with a thick brush...did not dry my hair, so I did not realize just how bad my hair looked until it dried and I was home. I contacted her and told her I was not happy with the darkness and the fact that the 2+ inch root did not only NOT match my color but made my highlights look grossly overgrown. She had every excuse to dismiss my concern and had ZERO customer care or service. She claimed I was being disrespectful because I asked her "will you fix it or not" HOW IS THIS DISRESPECTFUL. Also, she claims that she "ALWAYS GOES DARKER" when touching up the roots, WHAT?! Who does that? Why would you not MATCH the color, simply sloppy, careless and not the professional I expected. If you like sloppy, substandard work and with someone who does not take pride in her work...this is YOUR place,...

I absolutely LOVED my experience at Hair by Imara. Imara gave me exactly what I wanted for my balayage, cut and style. Her daughter Sabrina was also very helpful and kind and helped with the entire process. They were both extremely professional and friendly. They made me and my mom who was watching feel very at home and comfortable. I had not been to a salon in over a year and a half and my hair had gotten really yellow, damaged and brassy. I honestly had thought it was beyond help but Imara made it look better than it ever had before - she worked an actual miracle on my head!! When I saw the results in the mirror I was screaming with joy on the inside - it was even better than I imagined possible. I also love how she styled my hair with loose curls and gave me good, detailed advice for my hair care regimen at home. They really took COVID precautions seriously as well and I felt really safe, even in the pandemic. I am so happy with my new hair, it makes me excited every time I look in the mirror.
