In a city where you have to compete with The Book Loft, I think you really have to rely on atmosphere to stand out - and Birdie Books delivers on atmosphere. Truly conveying their affirming and open nature from the outside and inside, this is the most welcoming, well-decorated building I've been in. The staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful, and clearly put a lot of love and thought into not only the selection of books, but even how they are displayed. Birdie has a wonderful selection of queer titles and queer authors, and offers a much needed safe space nestled in cozy uptown Westerville. I've found the prices to very reasonable - less than Barnes & Noble, though a few books on the pricier side, but with some surprisingly affordable hardback titles! I found many books I wanted (but due to funds could not buy them all :( ) Some of the books are a bit pricey, but it is worth it for the donations the store gives to. The people are amazingly friendly. It was amazing to actually be able to meet and talk to the person who actually created some of the beautiful stickers (I got 5 of them!).
