Came here a few days ago to establish a relationship with these guys. Think it's pretty cool that a specialized fly shop is in our backyard, outside of Cabela's, or Bass Pro Shops. I have been fly fishing for about 16 years with mainly dry flies. I've recently decided to pull the trigger on a two-handed switch setup, and with all of the online instructions, and different lines running in a Skagit setup, I decided to speak with someone at Schultz. That someone was Nick, and he explained some things, answered a bunch of questions I had. I asked him to pull me a Skagit setup, and he took note of my rod & reel setup, and got me what I needed. He told me that when I get my rod & reel in, bring it in, and he'll spool & tie everything up for me. I did that today, and he had me ready to rock in 10 minutes, no charge. Thanks, Nick! These guys have a great fly & streamer selection, high-end rods & reels along with mid-ranged ones. They also have backing, float lines, Skagit spey heads, sinking lines, leader line, tippets, fly tools & accessories, polarized sunglasses, waders & rain gear, nets. They'll have what you need.

Great shop and fantastic group that run it! Their fly fishing knowledge is top notch and they are always willing to share. Don't hesitate to stop in or give them a call. They are truly a southeast Michigan gem that should not be missed. I may not be a pro tier, however, the knowledge shared from bar flies and the massive stock of materials allows me to keep busy in the cold months and ready once the water thaws.

Two day float trip w/head guide James Hughes was TOP NOTCH!!! Such a quality outfitter. I have had equally great experiences interacting with the shop as well; from just calling to ask questions to buying rods and tying materials. Can't say enough about how great they are. Do yourself a favor and visit the shop and/or book a trip with these guys!

These folks are the absolute best! I started taking fly tying classes at Schultz this fall. I was a bit intimidated by the process before my first class, but Jesse is an incredibly patient teacher. I've now taken classes from Jesse, Corey, and Greg and they have all been excellent. Everyone at the shop is welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. They've answered the countless questions I have, helped me purchase a fly rod/reel, and all the materials and tools for tying. They are very honest about where you really want/need to spend your money, and where you can be more budget minded. We are so lucky to have such a high quality shop in our community, staffed with friendly and incredibly knowledgeable folks. If I could give them ten stars I'd happily do so. Update 05/25/2025: My wife and I took a fly casting lesson today and wanted to add to my review. Our instructor was John Cleveland and he was excellent! I have almost no experience casting a fly rod and was somewhat nervous about it. John made the whole experience comfortable and explains techniques in a clear and accessible manner. I struggled quite a bit in the beginning and he was patient and worked with me until I got the basic movements down. I learned an incredible amount in the four hours he worked with us. I'll definitely be taking further lessons once I practice more and and ready to move on to the next level. I'm in this shop almost every week now and have had nothing but excellent experiences here. Schultz Outfitters is such an incredible asset to...

This is a truly unique outfitter, with an extremely knowledgeable staff that are avid anglers and know what they’re biting on right now. Store is inviting with a laid back small business atmosphere. They already were a well-known top fly-fishing outfitter. I am a Bass fisherman, but I had never visited Schultz before. Then I saw a post online that Schultz began selling Bass Fishing Tackle/Gear. I decided I would stop in the next time I was in the area. When I did, I was amazed at their selection of Bass tackle & related items. They have the latest trending, newly released tackle for Bass fishing. The selection of tackle, rods, reels, & accessories range covers proven popular items, hard to find niche brands, smaller local companies, high end imported tackle, up to enthusiasts grade gear you won’t find anywhere else around. The prices are competitive, and the gear is actually in stock, which sets them apart from a few online suppliers that sell similar bass fishing selections. Schultz carries a wide variety of Rods, Reels, jigs, soft plastics, crankbaits, topwaters, fishing line, terminal tackle, storage, accessories etc. The best part is that the selections are based on Bass fishing local lakes, rivers & the surrounding Great Lakes. Plus the store is well organized & neatly displayed, but be ready to spend a few hours taking in the huge variety they offer, especially if your a tackle addict like myself! Great Store that I will...
