This is a cool museum. I feel like I learned a lot while my kiddo got to explore. My guest and I had strollers and that was okay because they have elevators inside. Clean bathrooms. Drinking fountains. A couple of video games. I even invited my friends to make it a playdate. Three floors filled with history and actual fire trucks. Some items kids could touch and climb on. They had a coloring area and a video area. It looks like they host private events here too. I am not from the area so I wasn't familiar with where to park. I was sure if the street was for permit parking but I was able to park at Frog island park and walk. It was less than a 5-minute walk so it worked out great for me. If you forgot snacks it's a gas station across the street. Restaurants/ farmers markets down the road. We hung out here for several. hours and the kids found something new and exciting every couple of minutes. I would definitely visit again.

A beautifully laid out museum of firefighting equipment leads you through the growth of fire fighting technology. The museum has three levels. The main street level has the old firehouse with delightfully restored hose carts and pumpers. In addition it also showcases communications switchboard from early years. The main lobby area displays the progress of firefighting equipment. Notably, the far wall highlights the evolution of fire extinguishers. It also has hats and patches from various FDs in Michigan. You can go upstairs to see the restored living quarters of fire fighters. The upper mezzanine is dedicated to smoky the bear. The basement houses additional vintage fire trucks. Expect to spend an hour to two hours. The staff is very friendly; I even heard them enthrall a child by operating a siren. The cost of admission is reasonable.

My son from Detroit is a Fire Fighter and we were in Ypsilanti for the day, so we had to stop in the Michigan Firehouse and Education Center. A real treat for all ages. Great examples of fire truck and equipment from years past. Small admission to get in but worth the price for seniors, adults and children. I love the upstairs crew quarters, kitchen and the old-time sliding pole. We spent about an hour and half there and thoroughly enjoyed the time. they have a gift shop and welcome center and everyone there was friendly and helpful. If you are in Ypsilanti for the day stop in and see the MIchigan Firehouse Museum and Education Center.

Very low key building I’ve passed this a million times on my way around town. I had the kids and wanted something that my 3 and 11 year old would enjoy.I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of area and displays with information about the trucks history and of the local departments. The museum had a few interactive displays and a kids truck with lights and a function cab of a used fire truck. Doesn’t take long if you just want a few hour outing but could be longer if you look at everything in detail. Membership pays for itself if your planning on a return trip and is good for a year.

My kids enjoy this place so much. The gentleman who work there give us a free pass bc they just had an event. They gave kids fireman hat (kids love it) while we are exploring the whole museum. The building is 3 floors and have elevator so for parents who have small babies in stroller can still go and have easy access to all the floors. They have parking spot behind the building but its only like 3 cars but its free, you dont have to walk far. Really great experience especially for the kids and adults who love fire trucks. The staff are nice and pretty informative, thank you.

I will say it was nice not having to deal with a crowd of people however the reason I'm giving 3 stars is because they didn't have enough hands on things for the littler kids they have the play area in the basement. Everything was clean and I think they could of at least offered coffee or something for the adults. Very interesting all the reads and two of the fire trucks were leaking oil 🛢 🤷🏼♀️ so wasn't worth the 1 hour drive there and hour and 15 drive back it was only 20 bucks which is cool cheap place to keep you busy for maybe a couple hours
