While perusing Depot Town as I normally do, I passed by the Waxbar, obliviously realizing its existence only now. On a whim, we decided to go in and it was definitely a great decision we went in.
The bar’s atmosphere is rather cozy, music playing, projector playing various media (old commercials included!), with the walls littered in purchasable albums. I went for something simple, the daiquiri, while my better half aimed for the wax punch which was a hurricane today. The focus is tropical drinks, and what I got was an absolutely great drink. I’m by no means a mixologist, but it seems their shelves were carefully selected instead of overwhelmed with cheap spirits, of which I couldn’t find any. My daiquiri was finely balanced and awesome, the hurricane (wax potion) was beautifully crafted and also very tasty too! A moderated fine line between sweetness and potency.
Of course a bar is only as good as it’s tenders, and they whipped up drinks in a swift but mesmerizing fashion, taking very much care in what they crafted. They were also extremely friendly and informative, and made some great recommendations! Overall they were truly what made the bar as amazing as it is as it was oh so welcoming.
Overall, I think this might be my new recommendation for bars in the area. The amount of care really shows in the product they craft, and it’s truly an experience not only to drink but watch the...
Read moreWaxbar has been a favorite spot for the past few years, and even though it's changed ownership in the past couple of years, it's still an excellent spot to grab a drink and wind down for an evening.
Waxbar's ambiance used to lean heavily into the record store aesthetic, but now embraces the neighborhood bar/ dive bar style -- the upside is that there's a lot more seating available now! The drinks are still great, and represent a fairly good value overall! I appreciate the low-key nature of Waxbar, it's always a relatively cozy environment, the staff are friendly, and you can tell the regulars love it and will stay regulars for many years (if not decades) to come.
I've sampled a lot of their drink menu in the past few years, but in the recent shift of ownership, I haven't tried as many adventurous cocktails. The most recent trip to Waxbar included a Black Manhattan, which was fun and a nice spin on the standard Manhattan.

It is not a wax bar. They are playing film; not wax.
I believe any music playing could have definitely been wax; however it had a volume that leant to a Spotify playlist curated intimately by the operator(s) and tender(s) of this bar.
if you have a f$t salary, tell them, you may even get to unplug the broken Pinball table, without being cornered by the “service” and asked to leave.
