We had a very confusing stay with Sonaga. We booked the 4br villa for 7 nights through air bnb after a great deal of searching for a property suitable for young kids. Upon arrival to Phu Quoc we were told by our host that there was a 'problem with our booking' and our room had flooded. He tried to sell us alternatives but we demanded to see Sonaga. The staff there had no idea about our booking. They then said 'oh yes maintenance' after talking in Vietnamese to our host. So obviously this was an error or a scam by our air bnb host.

We ended up getting offered a villa for 4 nights and then a 'penthouse' apartment which was tiny and not ok for a family. We took the Villa for the first 4 nights. We had to find alternative accom, for 7 people, from boxing day. Stressful doesn't scratch the surface. We lost our whole 1st day sorting Sonaga and another day trying to find accom for 7 people on Christmas eve.

The villa was fine, but we were grateful in the end to be able to leave. The staff were quite unhelpful, whenever we called reception they simply hung up if they couldnt understand our question. We had to request beds for the kids 7 times before they were delivered. We had to pay $30 AUD per DAY to have cutlery, plates, cups etc supplied to the 'self-contained' villa. Apparently this was standard... nowhere else in the world have I heard this. A tired old sponge and no detergent supplied. No pool furniture, we had to request this. The villas perimeter can't be secured, there are huge gaps in the concrete walls allowing neighbours to see and pass through your villa. Not safe for wandering children.

The pool bar at the main pool isn't open and the gym equipment is average at a stretch.

Upside is a decent breakfast and short walk to the night market. Silver lining that our booking was messed up as we went to stay at The Shells which was a welcome change.
