Classic elegance...
This Hilton may not be the newest, but she is ageing gracefully and still gorgeous! Boasts impressive list of guests like former US presidents. Diamond perks were all honored.
Lobby. Impressive with a fitting nautical theme. The view at ground level was magnificent. Ride the glass elevators and soak in the view from up high, also.
Rooms. We got two rooms pre and post cruise. We got the Queen Executive room initially. Then a 3rd Floor double room, as we requested early check in and did not want to wait for an Executive room as it was not ready. Both rooms were updated with handy USB chargers. Also provided are 240 extension cords with adaptors for US style electrical plugs for laptops and chargers. For some reason the 3rd floor room we got seemed larger than the executive room and outfitted with a long, wall to wall sofa seat. Both had a walk in closet with the latter having a wall divider that slides to create a separate space.
Bathrooms. Large with exquisite marble finish all over. This cavernous space allowed for a separate tub, toilet and shower. Shower converts to rainfall style, but blink and you will miss this feature. Bath amenities were upgraded.
Executive Lounge. Located at the 8th floor was pretty much open all day. Soda, chips, coffee, and water provided outside happy hours and breakfast. Opens earlier for breakfast than the hotel restaurant which came in handy. Large selection of spirits and other drinks. Large inside section with ample seating even during busy times. An outdoor patio style extends the space with a city and pool view. Bathrooms were also equipped with showers.
Staff. Every interaction we had was superlative Hilton trademark. Concierge was knowledgeable. Front desk were all thorough and helpful. Executive lounge staff all went the extra mile. House staff were all efficient and very helpful.
Location. Situated in Puerto Madera, described as little Manhattan. Shops, restaurants, iconic giant port cranes were all next door. Popular with locals as it is nice to walk along the promenade. Also seemed like a a choice spot for kids to practice their dance moves, side of the hotel, probably due to the glass that provides reflection.
Nearby sights. Plaza de Mayo, Cathedral, and Casa Rosada were all about 15 minute walk. The walk was nice as later afternoons had a cool breeze. Uber'd it mid day as Buenos Aires heat and humidity can be oppressive. A local brand mini grocery is a 5 minute walk. Buquebus terminal is about 15-20 minute hike and 5 minutes via Uber. TGIF, Hard Rock, and Mcdonalds were about 15 min walk away.
Impressive property, well managed with an outstanding staff. A return trip is...
Read moreWe stayed at the Hilton Buenos Aires twice in January - bookending our 16 night expedition trip to Antarctica with Hurtigruten. The Hilton is huge! Despite the size of the hotel, there simply never seem to be enough staff on the front desk to welcome the large onslaughts of travellers - particularly a trip such as ours where at least 200 people are coming and going (and Viking also had trips coming and going). Just a few more checkin counters would go a long way to solving this bottleneck issue. We waited very patiently for 5 adult women (not part of the cruise ecosystem) to be checked in together… 5 passports, credit cards getting juggled, conversations being had, forms being signed… The staff however are incredibly patient and doing their best in an inadequate space - kudos to Rosario, Jesus and Alex on the front desk all of whom helped us at one stay or the other. The other absolutely ‘go to’ guy at the Hilton is Guido - he is one of the hardworking porters and can be found near the Concierge desk. He also speaks great English and is a joy to chat to. Due to checking out the first time at 2.30 am… and checking in for the second stay at 10.30 pm, we only got to experience the breakfast once. The food is fabulous - particularly the eggs to order (the scrambled egg on display had unfortunately dried out to the consistency of yellow kitty litter by the time we arrived for breakfast at 8.30 am). The breakfast area is huge but the area where food is somewhat cramped - the lovely big display table in the middle looks great, but with loads of international guests caroming around like dodgem cars and/or untrained seals, even when the seating is 80% empty… couldn’t imagine how unpleasant it would be at peak breakfast time. Beds? Obviously a personal thing, but too hard. We had just come off the utter. lush comfort of Hurtigruten’s ship the Roald Amundsen and those beds were super cosy and comfortable. On our first stay we were lucky to get 4 hours sleep due to early departure. On our second stay when we stayed a whole night, quite uncomfortable. Rooms are spacious, bathrooms are spacious, toiletries are Verbena scented and pleasant. Beds really letting them down. I accept it’s a big global brand and I don’t expect a boutique feel, but not a great sleep and we wouldn’t return (or risk staying with any other Hilton). Overall, did what it said on the (big) box and were were very appreciative of them storing our excess luggage safely while we were...
