Miranda Lodge — Hotel in District of Canberra Central

What an awful experience. The general condition outside was pretty disgusting, especially from the back car park. Things didn't improve much once inside. We resided to the fact that we would bear it just for the night... Until we sat on the bed! With springs in your back and it sunken in, it was far from adequate for a nights sleep. We asked the manager for another room, due to the state of the bed. He declined. He then proceeded to refuse to give us a full refund, as he had determined we had used the toilet. He flatly refused to sit on the bed, no doubt he knows how bad they are. It was the worst customer service (rude, arrogant and disinterested) we've ever encountered, he clearly couldn't care less about his hotel, which he quite clearly stated. According to him, he took over 6 months ago, and it's pretty clear he has driven it into the ground since. He made it very clear that he couldn't care less about reviews, which is a pretty bad sign in the hotel industry and he makes zero effort to rectify issues. If you must stay here, do yourself a favour and inspect the room (and try the bed!) before you hand...

For the money, this place is great value for Canberra, which is a quite expensive place to visit. I booked through their website(sent an email) because it is cheaper to book direct.||$100.00 per night which includes, parking, internet and a knockout breakfast.|||| Breakfast closes at 9am. Twice I witnessed Young(host) offering to cook breakfast for late arrivals at 8:55 am. He cooks a mean English breakfast and is only too happy to make your stay comfortable. |||| If you can, ask for a room at the rear as the rooms at the front cop all the noise from the busy main road at 6am in the morning.|||| All rooms do have central heating which is controlled from the main switch at reception.|||| Around the corner is a major shopping centre which has an array of eateries. I have stayed at Miranda Lodge a few times over the years, so was surprised on arrival on my latest trip when told long-time owner, the very amiable and helpful Mark had 'retired' back in March. Most things remained just the same. On the positive side, the very good value for money, walking distance to Dickson and its restaurants, free wifi, the cooked breakfast, even the full-size ironing board ... and with same-old negatives being the slightly drab, run-down room and even the hint of chlorine in the air.
