Edit: IGNORE WHAT OTHER REVIEWS SAY, THIS IS ANYTHING BUT AUTHENTIC
Its overall average, the sushi came out last and took quite a while for them to prepare. The fried foods were okay but they tasted like they were frozen and bought from another wholesaler. The Kaisou salad somehow tasted fishy with the dressing. The ramen was really cloudy white and overall the quality tasted like it was upgraded instant noodles. The zaru soba noodles were pretty tasty but again it tasted like they were pre-packaged noodles. While waiting for the sushi the waiter gave us some free aburi salmon nigiri as an apology which was the best part of the meal. The sushi platter had some overall low quality ingredients. The tuna tasted as if it was stored in a freezer for weeks, same with the prawn, and the octopus nigiri. But the octopus tasted particularly fishy and weird and I normally like the octopus nigiri. The fish egg gunkan maki tasted like it was canned. The rolls were also poorly assembled and didn't have a pleasant texture. Overall the food personally tasted of low quality. The food is not terrible but I would not consider it good. Don't come here expecting anything...
Read moreMy wife and I were browsing the restaurants located at Woolley St, Dickson ACT and discovered by chance this authentic and genuine Japanese restaurant. Both of us could not believe that such a high quality restaurant (in terms of food contents, preparation, presentation and freshness) could be located in a Canberra suburb that is comparable to the best in Sydney. The value is very good and the food is as good as Iori, the other excellent Japanese restaurant in Canberra City, albeit with a lower price tag. The sushi in my nigiri sushi don (mixed sushi on a bowl of sushi rice) was outstanding, the miso soup was flavoursome and fantastic, the agedasi tofu (lightly fired tofu with beautiful sweet sauce that I could drink) great and my wife's tempura with udon with a smooth white soup ... a combination I could not possibly explain. You would have to try it to experience real Japanese cuisine. We will be dinning...
Read moreIn my opinion the food is not that good here. I've eaten at Kagawa 3 times, and the last time my tokayaki balls were cold in the centre, the gyoza was very ordinary and appeared to be from a frozen packet as well. When it comes to other food besides the starters, I've only ever eaten the Miso Ramen so I can't comment on other meals besides the Miso Ramen and the aforementioned snacks. The first time I ate here I was really hungry so I think it warped my judgement, as I remember thinking this place was ok. I've now changed my mind. The Miso Ramen noodles I suspect are instant and some of the ingredients don't seem to fit right (Do they have broccoli, lettuce and corn in Miso Ramen?) I reckon the veggies in it were fresh but the mushrooms I think were from a can. Doesn't seem like an authentic Japanese restaurant to me but I could be wrong. I just know that after experiencing the Ramen in Sydney at Menya, this...
