Loved this place. I have stayed here now and don't really appreciate stingey whingers. It is a pub/hotel, it is on the main street of town and it's cheap to stay. Why do people have a whinge when they know what they are to expect. There was a little traffic noise but have a few beers, and that's sorted. The bed was comfy. The room was pretty clean. The shower had good pressure. I suggest maybe some plates could be provided as there is a toaster and microwave. The staff are excellent, waitresses and bar staff. Food!!! Wow!! Great value I must say. We ate 3 times here. Lunch twice and dinner once. We stayed one night only. First lunch, the better half had roast pork off the specials board. I had the crumbed lamb cutlets. Sensational!! This pretty much made our minds up on where we were going to have dinner. Dinner, better half had the 400g scotch and I had the mixed grill. Not many decent mixed grills are on offer these days. This was a pretty good one. Next lunch was the club sandwich and a veal snitty. Another top lunch and top marks to Linda who cooked all these meals. You are a legend. A lot of the lunches are priced at $15 and the dinner's are well priced too!! 10/10 guy's. We'll be back and we highly...

So disappointed. Found this pub when in town for the night and it looked great. Went in and in our usual friendly way said hello to the manager behind the bar and asked how much a pint of his Pressman cider was and he said $8.00 or $8.30. So I ordered our drinks. He at no stage asked if I wanted ice in my cider, as most responsible, polite and friendly bar staff would and I just don't like ice in my cider. So before I had noticed he had poured it with ice. When I said, oh Sorry no ice, I don't like ice in cider, he said oh well that will be a dollar extra then. I thought he was joking but no, he charged me $9.30. An extra dollar to take the ice out. Which he proceeded to do in front of me with a plastic scope, while joking with his mates behind us about no ice. He was so rude about it I couldn't believe it. Do they treat ALL out of towners like this. We were going to have dinner there but not after that disgusting service. Went down the road to the RSL club instead and glad we did. Much better than the New Crown. Suggest you avoid this pub if from...

I had planned to stay in another town, but did not get a good vibe from the place, so I ventured on to Hay. I called ahead to this pub and they had a room for me. I was welcomed by a genuinely polite and friendly person behind the bar and given the key to my room. This room was so good, (no.4). I stay in pubs regularly and this room had an en suite. A rare bonus! Add to that a TV, a comfy bed, (a touch too small for a table and chair, but did I mention the en suite?!) The meal I had downstairs was everything I needed. On my return trip I was hoping to make to Hay again, just so I could stay here again, but it was a bridge too far. Great pub. Great room. Great service.
