We spent 7 nights, had wonderful weather and enjoyed our stay. That being said...the resort could be so much more. If not for the Resort Manager and a mostly wonderful staff our stay might not have been as pleasant. There were issues the moment of our arrival, ants, though they are expected in the climate, there were far far too many. We were promptly moved to another villa. It was much better, but we had a visitor (large palmetto type bug) that took two calls to the desk to have removed. Again, these things are expected with the climate and the unit was otherwise clean and well equipped.
There were more issues, AC was not working in the master bedroom, and then the main living area AC broke and flooded the floor. A few other small things kind of cast a shadow over our first few days. The beach suffered from previous storms and had a considerable amount of garbage washed up on the shore, remotes weren't working, the stove only had 2 of 4 burners working, etc. However, the hotel manager responded quickly when I went to speak with him and I will say there was a marked improvement to the beach the following day. He was very kind and addressed every issue promptly.
The resort is in a nice spot, has a small beach area that is close to their restaurant and the resort itself is close to many amenities. There is just an air of benign neglect. To be fair, it looks like they are turning things around and it would truly be a great place, 5 star with very minor immediate changes, and modest long-term changes.
They need the little Conch shack to face the pool and fire up the stove/grill, serve easy grilled stuff and a a couple of rum drinks not just beer. We would have never left the pool area if we could have had some umbrella drinks and a bite to eat. Daphne was wonderful, welcoming and was a good representative of how friendly and helpful most of the staff were.
When they have a great pool bar, they will need to make sure people have somewhere else to go. Doesn't matter the season, every day someone should be picking garbage and giant clumps of seaweed off their beach, set up beach chairs, and again, have someone come out to beach goers and offer to get them a frozen drink from the bar.
Do some grilled food and drinks every evening, people don't want to commit to expensive parties.
I would have loved nothing more than to never leave the resort during the day, maybe only go out for dinner once or twice, but there really only was the one restaurant and the bartender was...well, not their best staffer.
There was a lot of people working, cleaning, and painting, so maybe they signs of neglect are being addressed.
The rooms are very nice, well appointed, but will need some refurbishing.
All in all, it was a nice week away, wonderful weather, and wonderful staff. A...
Read moreMy experience at this hotel was great. The day before travel, I received a call from the hotel to confirm my reservation and answer any questions. I live in the US so I thought that was nice especially since the hotels in the US don’t do that. It’s less than 10 mins from the airport and they charged $25. FYI US currency and Bahamian currency are the same value. Upon early arrival our room wasn’t ready but they kept our bags and we went to eat. Front desk agents were courteous and helpful. The food in general is overpriced. It’s just okay not horrible and not fantastic. I don’t like that for every meal they automatically add the tip and then they ask for more tip when you are paying. Water isn’t complimentary like the US. I had tea for breakfast and every time I asked for hot water refill, it was a charge which I thought was crazy! We got a room near the pool which was nice. The furniture is dated as most reviews said but they are still nice. The hotel has multiple villas so depending on where ur room is you will be closer to the beach or the pool. The beach was cold in November even with 80 degrees weather and sunshine but once u are in it, it feels better. Same for the pool. One part of the beach has waves and another part near the pool has no waves. No lifeguard for the pool and it’s open 24 hrs which I thought was nice. The pool lights up at nights and we enjoyed it. My room was clean. Beds were comfortable. If you are loud you can hear your neighbours so be mindful if you are having habba habba moments. The two beds suite is a little small especially the bathroom but I’ve been in smaller spaces for vacations so it was fine for me. There was a microwave, safe and mini refrigerator which are always good to have. Some outlets did not work. The wifi was good for the first two days and out for the last three days of our trip. It was horrible. It was fixed the day we were leaving. When it worked, we were able to use wifi outside of our room and on most of the resort. No carpet on the floor and the floors were cold just wear socks or slippers. Lots of lizards around mostly tiny ones but nothing to be scared of unless u fear lizards. Breakfast near check in was actually better than eating at the other places. Prices range over $10 depending on what you order. The resort is beautiful and clean. The villas are two storey so no elevators. I was concerned about some reviews talking about construction but there was none when we arrived. Ohhh if u order from Marco’s, ask the front desk as the service is better. Don’t use the app! They overcharge and I waited 1 1/2 for my food. Overall had...
Read moreI'm changing my review. We stayed in Sandyport Beach in Oct of 2023. Eight months later, I got a charge $600 charge from the hotel. We paid in full at checkout, but this charge showed up on my bill in May 2024. Called and left several messages but accouting never got back to me. It's a great affordable place to stay but I would NEVER give them a credit card again.
Although this place has seen better days, the helpful, courteous staff, extra services, and spectacular views more than makes up for any upkeep challenges.
We chose a lagoon beach suite for our six day stay. The first two days our suite was upstairs, but the front desk worked diligently to get us the first available downstairs suite. It was worth the wait. Both the bedroom and living room open directly into a slightly raised patio, a sandy beach and sparkling lagoon.
The suite comes with lots of windows, a small, kitchen, living room with adjacent 1/2 bathroom, a bedroom with shower, double sink and a luxurious tub with jets.
If you enjoy coffee on the patio with a view of palm trees and a sparking lagoon this is the place for you.
Just a short walk from our room takes us to the pool, cabana bar, front desk and restaurant. We only had breakfast at the restaurant but it was delicious.
A little further down a manicured path take you to their private beach. Complete with pretty white gazebo at tree end of the dock. Or you can turn east on the beachfront and end up at the Blue Sail Restaurant. Chase lounges and umbrellas are provided by Sandy Port Resort. Tucked behind the mangrove bushes you'll find several comfy day beds and hammocks. This was my favorite place, Lounging in the day bed, watching the crystal blue ocean surrounded by palm trees. Check out the video.
During our time there, I booked a private massage on the gazebo at the end of the dock. It was dreamy...listening to the waves cascade onto the beach as the sea breeze caressed my skin.
There are several wonderful restaurants, a convenience store, pharmacy, clinic and gas station within walking distance.
Every single staff member at Sandy Port Resort, housekeeping, maintenance, bar tender, wait staff, front desk clerks and especially the front desk managers were friendly and eager to make our stay special.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the mega resorts and embrace relaxation, local culture and spectacular views Sandy Port Resort...
