What a wonderful experience staying for the very first time at the hotel. The hotel is secure, staff are friendly and professional. Rooms are nicely decorated, they could improve on the finishing however such a top notch hotel for very good value for what you get in terms of facilities and convenience. You are able to use the ATM accessible through one of the entrances, you have a hospital with even a shop within their entrance, you have a dentist too. You get everything without leaving the premises. Dargagate is a very busy place with everything available including the mosque nearby. Even though its hustle bustle the hotel is tucked away from that and you're completely submersed into a haven of peace. The infinity pool is very picturesque with a backdrop view of Sylhet. Its excellent to swim and relax on the floating sun loungers or even just to hangout at the pool terrace is another vibe. Beautiful scenery and breeze with the sights of Sylhet. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun, with current music, you have the option to dine at the restaurant with many options to choose from such as Turkish, Pan Asian, Thai, Turkish, Indian, Bengali, Italian, it is really an extensive menu. I especially enjoy their BBQ's which is their grilled specialities. Theyres also live cooking in the courtyard! The quality and the taste of the char really makes it exquisite and fresh. Then you have the option to dine in with a beautiful restaurant, with nicely decorated verandas to have photo opportunities or soak up the views from the hotel. When you are in this hotel you forget you are in Bangladesh, no mosquitos, clean air, you forget about the pollution. From a distance, landscapes are amazing. You have a cafe, and you have the option to order food at the restaurant and dine out at the courtyard and also dine at the terrace which is all over beautifully draped with natural greenery. With the plants and flowers, it really brings a garden of Eden feel to it.
Manager and receptions staff are very friendly and helpful. I would say cleaning standards are not as high in like a UK 4 star hotel, however they have a good standard and we cant expect the same as we're not in the U.K. I think with a densely populated city with heavy pollution, expect a few bugs here and there, however surprisingly they control this very well, so im sure they must put some type of treatment to maintain that. The house keeping team are amazing so if you do ask them nicely then they always try their best to accomadate with everything. They never ask for tips, however I would tip, we have to remember Bangladesh is a developing country, theyre staff work hard with likely less pay compared to what we would earn. Theyre not begging, theyre working, so we should also consider they have very low incomes and they have family to feed. So we should respect and support these people who are not fortunate as ourselves and insist on tipping, as and when you can.
I have seen some guests treat staff terribly, remember they are human, just as us, life's circumstances and the privileges you have acquired doesnt mean you are higher than them. This just means we are blessed, like everyone is in their own way, so please consider and respect.
Noorjahan Grand really has given the best Bangladesh tranquil experience away from the chaos . It really helps indulging in the Spa treatments, they are really good! You also have the Gym with an array of cardio and gym equipment. Great facilities overall! I am staying for another month as I...
Read moreWish I could give it negative stars. I booked and paid for the hotel 1.5 months in advance, double beds for 3 people. After booking, I emailed and confirmed the reservation with the hotel team and they told us it was done. The day of, we called them and receptionist was very rude, did not greet us over the phone and answers were brief and rude. We let it go. Once we arrived at the hotel, the bellboy at the door acted as if he did not see us. We had to ask him where to check in. Once we walked into the reception area, there were 3 people there and not one of them said hello. They seemed like they were annoyed to see us. Eventually one of them said "yes?". After we had given them our IDs and signed forms, they asked us our relationships. I notified them that I am (female) here with my first cousins (male and female and they are siblings,10 years younger than me). I was then informed that this is not allowed and I would have to purchase an extra room. If this is truly their policy, why did they not inform us this during the time of booking? Or, why did they not ask us this for the 1.5 months we were booked for, or even when we reached out to them to confirm? I mentioned during booking we are 3 people so why did they not try to find out this info earlier? When I ignored this comment of his, they let us have the room after a wait. This tells me thats not even a real policy and they just tried to make us purchase an extra room because they knew we won't have anywhere to go last moment. When we walked into the room, there was a really bad smell. There were no windows to open for ventilation. The bathroom smelled like cigarettes. There were no towels. The bellboy who showed us to our room said he would come back with towels but did not come for over an hour. We have two beds in the room, one is soft and one is very hard. The next day we went to have breakfast and found hair on our vegetable pakora (added photos). Then, same story during checkout. We walk into reception and no one greets us.
Overall, I am disappointed with the hotel in every aspect. It is nothing like what we had hoped for it to be based on some of the reviews.
We are not the only ones who have had such experiences. A lot of the reviews talk about how rude and unprofessional the staff are. The staff who looks so miserable to be there, perhaps they should...
Read moreOkay to stay here if you only want a central location in the city, which provides decent food and a clean room that's affordable.
The restaurant on the rooftop had a good menu which was well prepared and served, same with the cafe👍
We booked a "premier" family room that was found clean, was not very aesthetically pleasing as one wall had damaged paintwork, but we didn't mind. Stay was comfortable 👍
Reception staff in general were prompt with addressing concerns and queries, however restaurant staff need professional training as one tried to pass a note with her number on it to my fiancé... 👎
The "gym" is nonexistent, there is a large under-maintained dusty room with one broken multi-gym machine in it, 2x5kg dumbells and a treadmill 👎
There are no brochures for local tourism, however at a price of 4000BDT (advanced payment) we were provided with a car and driver to bring us to 2 locations at the suggestion of the receptionist on our first day of stay, which was enjoyable, leading us to requesting the same service on day two. However, this time we were given a different car and driver who did not bring us to our promised destination, was not helpful and mocked us for not having the knowledge that tourism of natural sites is seasonal in Sylhet - January is off-season. We requested an immediate return to the hotel for a refund. Upon returning, we were challenged by reception staff, who insisted that we, the guests, failed to reach our destination as we did not walk 5mins to find it, in an attempt to refuse us our refund. It took a waiting time of 2.5hours and 20 further minutes of explanation to inform the receptionist that the "tour" on day two was not guided by their staff unlike day 1 and not completed by us either. This was our first time visiting Sylhet, we chose to visit places suggested by hotel staff. After a prolonged rude and unprofessional exchange, he processed our refund and apologised for the inconvenience. We lost a day of touring and were exhaused after this experience. Do not use the hotel cars, but organise your own driver/tour guide/package prior to arrival...
