Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience at this property and wanted to warn others who are seeking a nice vacation property. Very nice host and managers but the property is not set up properly for guests. We paid over $200 for the night and when we got to the property there was no electricity, but they had a generator on. The fans and water worked so we were happy. We were grossed out by the mouse droppings on different window sills in the adjacent room, but not in the room we slept in so it was fine. |In the middle of the night (4am to be exact-we knew this because it was so loud and we heard it turn off) the generator turned off so we slept in the heat with no fan and were miserable. By the morning we just wanted to take a shower but since there was no electricity there was no running water. We couldn't wash our hands or even use the toilet. We were told that the breakfast that was included would no longer be available and we had to get food on our own which we weren't prepared for since it was included in the price of the hotel. |When I emailed the owner she mentioned that we were told that there was a possibility that this would happen, and I went through every piece of correspondence but she had not mentioned anything of that nature, or I definitely would not take the risk. They did not offer any money back or form of compensation. Just a "too bad so sad" reply. I have to mention that they were nice enough to take our luggage and transfer it to the next hotel. |Would not recommend it unless you are willing to take the chance of not having electricity. It was not a cheap property either which is why I was shocked that they expect people to just deal with whatever happens and not even an...
Read moreOk so this place is absolutely wonderful. Lets start with the cabana, We stayed in the orange one- which was perfect for us. Its a cute, simple, comfortable room to rest in at the end of each day. This place really is a paradise. Counted 74 steps from the room steps to the clear, warm ocean. Really what made this more then just a room was the resident caretakers. They are absolutely amazing- we spent a few hours talking and getting to know them. The room and spot was wonderful but they made it feel like home for the week we stayed there. I will miss them more the the room itself. I truly can not say enough good things about them. If your reading this and considering a place to stay - in my opinion - you found it. The ride there is "fun and bumpy 40 min golf cart ride", more then worth it. You will not regret the choice. There are places to eat within walking distance, There's even have a spot right there, which is good eats in and of itself. I could talk for a long time about the cabana, our host, and the area - this was a bucket list spot I didn't know I had till we arrived. The host have a wealth of knowledge about all things on the island- can give you tips on all the to dos, fishing, snorkeling, ect. Talk to them and you will gain more from that then anything I could say. Seriously a stay at Secret Beach Cabanas is an experience you would not want to miss out on. Go,...
Read moreOur group had a fantastic stay at Secret Beach Cabanas. Warm Belizean hospitality in an off-the-beaten-track location. The west side of Ambergris Caye features calm, turquoise waters over a shallow sandy bottom. No seaweed! Every day we would walk out to the water and then turn either left or right to a fun beach bar, where we would often snag a palapa in the water. And the sunsets! So beautiful. We stayed in the yellow cabana, slightly larger than the green and orange units. It had a large ceiling fan over the comfortable memory foam queen bed. We were prepared for no AC and conserving water and electric, but a pleasant surprise was the number of electric outlets and good wifi, plus the mini fridge worked great. There were strong breezes blowing through the windows at night, so we were comfortable. The location is somewhat remote, so stop to buy soft drinks and snacks in town before you begin the 40 minute (bumpy!) golf cart drive across the mangroves to Secret Beach. The team running the grill (below our cabana) cooked dinner to order for us every night, and even set up beach bonfires for us. We would eat lunch each day at a different nearby beach bar. The caretakers provided coffee and made delicious, local-themed breakfasts each morning. At Secret Beach Cabanas, they have a saying - "come as a guest, leave as family." This is no...
