Not sure the name of the restaurant but it was the 2nd one in next to the one with the colourful chairs and it's the one with the green deck chairs and a few plastic tables in the water anyways... it has the best stuffed fry jacks I've ever had and since arriving in Belize and I have had fry jacks every day since I arrived sometimes even twice a day and I ate at a place that specializes in fry jacks but still this place beat them all! The swimming was okay. Kinda boring after a little while like being in a huge kiddie pool. You can walk the whole way out like a few hundred yards, the water was clear and warm. I can only wade around in the water for so long before getting bored. Kids would probably love it though especially if you bring them goggles and maybe a snorkel. Some new to beaches, elderly, or differently abled adults might be amused for a while easing their way into snorkeling in this shallow water that has 6 or so different little fish varieties easily observed close to shore. To get there we rented a golf cart in San Pedro for under $60 for the day including gas. You can probably find one for closer to $50 if you shop around and haggle and compare prices between the numerous golf cart rentals but we figured the $10 difference wasn't worth the time and effort as we wanted to get up there quickly and beat the rush and it worked since we were maybe the 2nd or 3rd group up there and had our choice of parking, tables, and lounge chairs. I would have made the drive just for that amazing stuffed fry jack. Sorry for the poor picture quality of the food. The food just happened to be in the foreground of another pic and I had to crop it and zoom in. The fry jack was so good we practically inhaled it and it was gone so fast there was no time to take a picture and by the time we realized we should have gotten a pic of it all that was left was a drop of sauce on the plate. 😅. Service there was also great. The staff was very attentive, friendly, enthusiastic, and really hustled back and forth bringing the food...
Read moreOkay, lets get this straight. The drive on a golf to Secret Beach is treacherous. On our way, we ran into a local who had his thumb out "hitchhiking". Asked him if he needed a lift and sure enough he was a bartender who was late for work! During the lift he gave the inside scoop on all the going ons of the area and Secret Beach. The area out to Secret Beach will eventually (key word there) get a road and electricity. It is a subdivision that has been divided as we saw two houses out there that are totally off the grid...wow. Anyway, got to the beach via the signs and and came upon the beach. WOW! Crystal clear waters, clean, calm and you can wade out forever! I can't remember the bar we hung out but it was to the right and food was good and the drinks were cold. In the distance you can Leo Dicaprio's island which just broke ground. Don't listen to negative reviews of Secret Beach and GO! GO early and come back early as you DO NOT want to drive back...
Read moreAbout a 45 minute ride there. The ride was BUMPY and the road closer to the beach feels suspect I can’t lie, but once you get there, it was plenty of good vibes. Water was beautiful.
The smell of sargassum isn’t present here which is great, because at Alaia, it STINKS bad.
We originally went there looking for Secret Beach food, but it’s about 3 places along the strip. Know where you want to go before you make that drive. I wanted Blue Bayou food & ended up stopping at 3 places in total (Pirates, don’t know the second one name, and then Blue Bayou). Food was relatively the same. Don’t fall for the tourist traps because they’ll capitalize on confused tourists 😂
Many of the benches/tables in the water were lopsided and the good ones were mostly occupied; but to be fair, we arrived there at 2pm.
The sun sets around 6:15pm, so I made sure my fiancée and I leave right before 6pm.
All in all, I would definitely go...
