Whats app reservation was very easy. Cash only establishment. Not cheap but doesnt need to be. They do one thing and one thing only. Italian food. Ran by a couple in the heart of Caye Caulker, these two run wednesday to sunday making pasta. The menu gives you two pasta options. Meat or vegetarian. Bread comes with this creamy artichokes dip thats refreshing. Had the ginger iced tea home made which had zings of fresh ginger. Super good.
Now the pasta we had was a sausage tomato ragu with short fat penne. It was a good portion for 38ish BLZ. I believe the other option was a gorgonzola cream with black olives. Lady beside me commented it was delightful.
Tomatoes were just ripe but deepened with the stock of the sauce. Fresh Parmigiano reggiano too.
Dessert was pannacotta is a either crowd pleasure or texture nightmare if you had slimey jello like. I tasted fresh milk and the caramel was addicting. I loved it but if you really hate pannacotta, their chocolate salami is another option. Warning: the alcohol is strong in those cookies.
The atmosphere was great. We sat by a dutch couple and some Canadians and had a blast. The owners were charming too and definitely love their slice of Italy on the island.
Hole in the wall adventurers like myself rejoice! We have found our perfect hole...
Read moreThis place is an absolute gem. My wife and I were debating between this place and the other Italian place on the island. We chose correctly!
The service was perfect and timely, you feel like you are eating with your family. The server was very nice and helpful describing the menu and fresh pasta options.
We started with the prosciutto appetizer. Salty goodness! I had a fresh pasta dish (spaghetti with all kinds of delicious meats on that day). It was so good, I saved some for leftovers. My wife had the steak. Perhaps a bit over temp (med) but, the steak was fantastic with a flavorful char. A couple glasses of wine to make everything perfect.
For dessert, with a little help from Armando ;), we were able to secure the last available Panna cotta. We had it topped with caramel and chocolate.
As we wrapped up our meal, we were able to chat more with the wonderful Armando. Be careful with your wives gentlemen, he is a charmer. Anna was able to come out from the kitchen and we talked for a while about our mutal love for the local dogs and how they ended up owning a wonderful restaurant. It is all in the name! When you eat here, you feel like you are part of family.
We absolutely loved it! Thanks Armando and Anna for your hard work...
Read moreThe menu is tiny because they offer two main entrees per night, one meat choice and one veggie choice. It changes daily so you can literally eat there every night and get something new! We opted for one of each and both were delicious and very different. The meat sauce with spaghetti pasta was loaded with bacon and some veggies in a nice light but smokey red sauce. The fresh pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The veggie pasta had a rich and slightly creamy sauce that was packed with flavor and again, perfectly cooked pasta. The veggies are diced very small so don't worry about getting big chunks of anything, it all blends perfectly together! We ordered a side salad to share and they bring dinner rolls with a dipping sauce that is wonderful! We finished off our experience sharing the panna cotta with a caramel and chocolate sauce, the perfect ending to a perfect meal!
Service is very friendly and the atmosphere had us making new friends and really enjoying our time. I highly recommend taking a break from all the grilled food on the island and visiting Anna & Armando, you won't be...
